{Sharing Time} Joseph Smith Translated the Book of Mormon by the Power of God.

Sharing Time Idea from the 2015 Sharing Time Outline
ENCOURAGE UNDERSTANDING: Write power of God on the board using a code (for example, you could replace each letter with a symbol). Ask if anyone can read the message. Write a key on the board that shows which letters the symbols replaced, and have the children work in groups to decode the message. (Remind the children not to call out the answer.) Read the phrase together. Read D&C 1:29.
Explain that Joseph Smith could not read the writing on the gold plates without the help of the Lord. Invite the children to share what they know about how Joseph Smith was able to translate the Book of Mormon. Invite several children to share how they feel about the Book of Mormon.

Sharing Time Idea from Little LDS Ideas
In my Sharing Time idea, I have a game idea that you can use for Jr. and/or Sr. Primary. It’s called ‘Search for the Gold Plates’. This is an activity I shared years ago, but would be great for this week’s Sharing Time. 


First, to begin the Sharing Time I thought it would be fun to show ‘The Book of Mormon’ written in several different languages. 

Then ask if anyone can read any of the writings. You could go over each one, telling them what language it is written in. Then ask them, ‘Wouldn’t it be hard to read something in a different language?’

‘You would have to know the language wouldn’t you?’


 Tell them that when Joseph Smith received the plates, they were written in a very weird language. The language was Reformed Egyptian.

Here is an example of Reformed Egyptian that you could show to the children.
After you have discussed how hard it would be to translate…you will explain to the children that they will be searching for the Gold Plates.

What you will Need:
You’ll need to print out a picture of a stone/rock (Here’s the image I used). You’ll also need a few file folders or boxes.

Print out your rock {just find a picture online} and cut it out. Attach the rock to the front of the file folder. That’s easy enough, right?

Then, inside place a picture of the Gold Plates. You’ll only need one picture of the Gold Plates. Underneath the other rocks you could put silly pictures. I.E- Snakes, bugs, a shoe, etc.

Here is my picture using a box instead of a file folder. You’ll want to cover the box with brown or green paper. Then attach the picture to the top of the box. You could use any type of box.

Inside, place the Gold Plates. If you are feeling very craftsy, you could always make some gold plates.

I know at our church, in the library, we have some gold plates that someone made using wood. They’re really neat, the children loved them. And the same as above, you’ll only need one set of Gold Plates, you could put other things in the other boxes.

Just a FEW things I love about my Home Executive Planner

One thing I am super excite about in this year’s planner is the TABS!
Not having tabs wasn’t a huge deal, but having tabs will make finding the month I’m on a lot easier. 

I absolutely love her ‘Dinners’ column. I have to plan a weekly menu, or else we would be stuck eating chicken nuggets and macaroni, haha. I love cooking and trying new recipes, so I love planning my menu.

And then right beside the menu is the groceries list. Brilliant! This year she brought back the categorized shopping list, love it!

And since we’re talking about cooking and food, another thing I’m loving about this planner is the recipe pages in the back of the planner. Yep, Jen shares some yummy recipes for you to try.


I love that this planner has a monthly calendar as well as a weekly calendar section. The weekly calendar section is split into 5 columns. I love this because I am able to have a column for Me & Hubby, one for the kiddos, one for Church callings, one for Blog, and a Misc. column. The columns are left blank, so you can change them up from week to week. Maybe one week you would like to have a cleaning section or a To-Do section.
See that cute ribbon/book mark? In the planner I received from Jen she included the ribbon attachment to act as a bookmark since that was one improvement they were not able to make permanent with this year’s planner.  She is planning to write a post on her blog about ‘how to add’ that yourself, but you can receive one with your planner iF order from Jen’s website.



One last item I love about Jen’s planner is the fun stickers!

In each Home Executive Planner you will have 2 sheets of fun stickers. I have loved using the stickers in all of my planners.

Resurrection Easter Egg Activity

The Resurrection of Christ….the greatest event to ever take place for us….

I have SO loved this idea since getting it once in Relief Society in a lesson on the great sacrifice of our Savior and His Atonement. I have used this around the Easter dinner table in my family. I’ve used it teaching teenagers in Sunday School and in a Family Night. And I’ve reused it in primary.

Kids love object lessons. And this easter egg “signs of the Savior’s Sacrifice for us” is a great object lesson for kids and adults alike.  Every year, when I’ve taken out my little basket of eggs I’ve got a tear in my eye. I love the Savior. I believe in Him with all my heart. And I know in whom I have trusted.

In this chaotic life we are all a part of, it is a simple and clear walk through the steps to the Savior’s crucifixion and  resurrection, easily understood. I would try to do this activity as a family on Easter Sunday.

As a former Catholic, and a convert to the church,  I always have mixed feelings about not telling exactly what happened to Christ during his great sacrifice in Gethsemane and the events leading up to the Crucifixion. Why not recognize the greatest sacrifice ever made, given by the greatest who ever lived among us, on the universal celebration of Easter?  I never did get that. Try to honor the Savior on Easter. That’s my simple and heartfelt message.

Another favorite painting of mine…I’m looking for a big copy of it to put in my greatroom remodel…it says to me….”I will look for you  when you  are lost…even though you are odd, different, ugly, damaged”  His love for us, evident.

I actually like both of them. You could do a combination of both lists. I would skip the vinegar though, yucky :D.  A third lists is here copied from Yahoo Voices.

Hosanna 66, Beautiful Savior 62 To Think About Jesus 71, etc. HERE  is a flipchart on He Sent His Son at Sugardoodle. Pick a child to come up and choose an egg. Read the scripture inside and show what object is inside and explain what part it played in the Easter story. It is usually a very quiet and reverent time.

 I loved getting this for my family and using it many times. It has made a big difference in my life and my family’s too I believe.

These eggs can be used for Resurrection Easter Eggs and the leftovers for an Easter Egg Hunt!

As we contemplate the gifts we have received from our Savior, and Redeemer, I have hope and trust in the above quote. I know there is a power we can turn to when life gets hard. And I, for one, need that power every single day.
