Mother’s Day Questionnaire & Gift Idea

Today I wanted to share a fun little Mother’s Day treat & gift idea that we have decided to do for Primary this week.

We had decided that we were going to use ‘Riesens’ as the treat and that we would have a little tag or something that said:

“A few riesens why I love you.”

I had been thinking about what to do and thought about a questionnaire. I LOVE the questionnaires that have been floating around the internet. They are always so cute and funny.

I decided I wanted to do the same thing, so I looked online and found a
I used the idea, but made just a few minor changes.

Here is what they look like:

 I decided to ask my ‘soon-to-be’ 4 year old the questions. As always, they were so cute and funny.

Some of her answers:
I know my Mom cares because she…gets mad sometimes & happy sometimes. {guilty}
I love my Mom because she helps me…cut my hair when I get gum in my hair. {sigh…yes, yes I do}
I love my Mom when she makes me laugh by…acting like a chicken {not sure about this one} haha
I am sharing my questionnaires as a free printable! Just keep on reading and click the link at the bottom of this post to print yours out. If you don’t want to print in color just select on your printer options to print in Black and White. I tried it and it still prints out great.

Treat Idea
I happened to have some French fry boxes that I picked up from Pick Your Plum. I thought it would be really cute for the treat.



I got some clear treat baggies (leftover from birthday bags) and put a few Riesens, Hershey Hugs and Kisses inside. I decided to throw in some Hugs & Kisses…thought that would be cute.

Then I folded the bag and placed it inside the fry box upside down.


Next, I created and printed out some Happy Mother’s Day tags. I got some twine and wrapped it around the box a few times and then attached the tag.

On Sunday we’ll have the children fill out their questionnaire. They can fold it and place it inside the box or just hand it to their Mom when they give her the box of treats.

10 ‘Riesens’ I Love My Mom plus chocolate…I couldn’t ask for a better gift.
If you don’t have a box to put the candy in, no worries. Just get some clear plastic baggies and tie it off with some twine or curly ribbon. Then attach the tag and you’re good to go!

{Sharing Time} My Faith in Jesus Christ is Strengthened When I Obey

Sharing Time Ideas from the 2015 Outline

INTRODUCE THE DOCTRINE: Place a picture of Jesus Christ on the board. Draw a staircase with four steps leading up to the picture. Say together the fourth article of faith, and invite the children to name the first principles and ordinances of the gospel as you write them on the appropriate steps. Count on your fingers as you say each principle and ordinance. Consider ways to help the children memorize the fourth article of faith.

ENCOURAGE UNDERSTANDING: Sing “Faith” (CS, 96–97). Make a word strip for each sentence in the second verse. Divide the children into four groups and give each group a word strip. Have each group stand and sing their line at the appropriate place in the song. Have the groups exchange word strips, and repeat until each group has sung each line. Invite the children to act out ways they can obey. (This could be done in their groups or with the whole Primary.) Share with the children an experience that has strengthened your faith in Jesus Christ.


Sharing Time Ideas from Little LDS Ideas

I’m sorry I haven’t been around lately. If you follow me on Facebook you might have seen that we just bought our first home and were busy moving and getting it ready. We are so excited to be in our home, but I have had to put some things on hold while we got situated. We’re still not quite there, but we’re getting closer.

For this week’s Sharing Time I looked through some of my previous ideas and decided to share some of those. Hope you like them!



Here’s the first idea that I thought would be great for this week:

Gardening Faith Sharing Time Idea
What does it mean to have faith? Alma says that “if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true” (Alma 32:21). We have faith when we believe and trust in something that is real and true even though we have not seen it for ourselves.

What does it mean to have faith in Jesus Christ? To have faith in Jesus Christ means that although we have not seen Him, we believe that He lives and loves us and that we trust Him. When we read the scriptures, we can learn about Him. When we listen to the prophets, we can understand what we can do to follow Him. When we pray in faith for help to choose the right, we can know that our prayers will be answered. When we listen to the whisperings of the Holy Ghost, we can feel Him close to us and know that He loves us.

Show the children some seeds. Ask the children if anyone knows what they are. Then ask them the 3 questions from the outline: “What can these seeds become?” “How do you know these seeds will grow?” “What must we do to make them grow?” Discuss the seeds and how they grow with the children. Then explain to the children that Faith is like a seed. You could ask the children how Faith is like a seed.

How does our faith in Jesus Christ grow? Alma tells us that the word of God is like a seed. We show our faith when we plant a seed in the earth. We then nurture it by keeping the weeds away, by giving it water and plant food, and by making sure that it has sunshine. If it is a good seed, it will begin to swell and grow.

When we believe in the teachings of Jesus Christ, we plant true words of God in our hearts. We nurture this kind of seed by praying, by listening to the prophets, by keeping the commandments, and by responding to the promptings of the Holy Ghost. As we do this, the seed of truth will grow within our hearts. Then we will know that Jesus Christ is happy with our efforts.

Alma says that if we continue to nourish the word of God by our faith, it will grow as large as a tree and bring forth fruit. This means that our faith in Jesus Christ will grow strong and bring blessings for us and for others. What joy that brings! We have faith in Jesus Christ when we believe Him, trust Him, obey Him, and follow Him.

Help the children memorize Alma 32:21: “If ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true.”

After the children have memorized the scripture show a picture of Samuel the Lamanite and explain that he prophesied that on the night Jesus Christ would be born, the sun would go down but it would not get dark. Tell the story to the children and discuss it.

 

Activity

Assemble some gardening aids (small bag of fertilizer, trowel, watering can, picture of sun, etc.), and put them into a box or bag. Have children pick an item and tell one thing we can do to nurture the word of God by our faith in Jesus Christ (believe, keep the commandments, pray, etc.). Label each item with a word suggested by the child. Display pictures of trees in various stages. Help the children realize that this is an ongoing process.

**Another idea: you could attach pictures to each gardening tool for Jr. Primary and scripture references for Sr. Primary that talk about the different ways we can nurture/help our seed grow (Prayer, Scriptures, Baptism, etc.). Have the children tell you what the picture is and then discuss how that helps our seed to grow and have the older children find the scripture and read it and then tell you what it is.



Wimpy Wayne Sharing Time Idea

For my first idea I am sharing an idea I shared several years ago that actually had the exact same topic. For this Sharing Time you will need a helper to come in and act like your ‘Wimpy’ person. The children will be helping you find weights that will strengthen your helper’s faith in Jesus Christ. I have shared an outline that you are free to use. Read through it and use it just as it is or make your own changes.

‘Faith is like a Seed’ Sharing Time Idea

While looking through my previous ideas, I came across some that I had seen on Sugardoodle. I thought they were really great ideas and would work for this week’s lesson. Here they are:

Sherry said: I am considering planting the seeds as a real physical object, for understanding, but I want to make a project in which as we add water drops to a flower pot(ways to nurture our faith) we can add parts to the flower on a display board, which growing our faith. Not sure how to pull it all together yet or how good of an idea it is. Will definitely be cute for Jr!

Ramona answered with this idea: I like your idea. What about having a pot that is attached to a poster board that has a string run up through the top, so as you “water” the plant, you can pull on the string and pull it up out of the pot? It might be cool if it were even a vine type of plant that had flowers attached, etc. and they are seen as you pull more and more out of the pot. Maybe making the flower/vine out of foam. Just thinking out loud, but your thoughts got me to thinking too! I think I’m going to try something like that!

 I would probably make a pretty big pot and then make the flower out of paper. I would have the flower folded inside the pot and as you pulled on the string it would unfold and grow.
