Hope you find your answers. To be an efficient and effective secretary, you are entitled to understand your calling. You help make things happen! If you don't get a copy of your responsibilities as outlined, ask your bishop. They have a copy of that in the office and you probably could copy that part necessary to execute your calling. Good luck sis.

NEW INFORMATION. "A Very Happy Birthday," credited to Beth Marchant, was published in the January, 1949, issue of "The Children's Friend" magazine. A box to the side says, "A NEW BIRTHDAY SONG. This birthday song is suggested for Primaries in place of the Primary Penny Song."
In 2008, my sister's daughter-in-law discovered this in the BYU Library, and acquired a photo image of the page, which she sent to my sister. I just received the image.

Well, that was fun, and took much more time than I really should have spent on it, but here's a link to a post on my blog, Writer in the Pines, where I have a short article about this adventure, and links to both an mp3 file to download/listen to and a pdf file to download/print so your family can learn the words.
Just follow the printing tip for best results.
Enjoy!

Hmm, good idea. I'll see what I can do.

The lyrics sound wonderful – but I wonder if someone could share the music or tune or something, such that we could begin using it, as well – Thanks!

Interesting! Our family uses the exact same song, adding the regular "Happy Birthday to you" at the end. Another family I know switches the order, beginning with "A very happy birthday," following with the "As years go by" part, then ending with "Happy Birthday to you."
I have no idea of the origination of the song, though. It would seem possible that it's an old Primary song. I can't ask my mother, who taught us the song, as she is long deceased.

Perfect! Thank you for taking the time!

I am sorry to be a bother, but the 4 bullet items are still not opening and I don't understand your suggestion to 'open the link in the menu'. I did some troubleshooting with my super computer savvy husband, but still no luck. Any other words of advice? Am I the only one having trouble with this particular page?

My wife and I have put together a "grande" list of the works of various LDS composers out there. Here: http://freeldssheetmusic.org/

Dear Jenny….so glad I found this post! I've been trying to find the Bro. Simon blog for weeks now, I just loved his insights and ideas and have been disappointed about not being invited back in. I don't know why Seminary teachers are asked to stop blogs, it's so helpful to share ideas and thoughts! Appreciate your explanation! Now I know…..

I am LDS; my husband is not. We do this fine bit of choreography any time our children take on covenants in the LDS church. :) We choose to have the non-LDS side of the family participate as fully as possible, and it seems to work very well.
For instance, when our son was baptized, the LDS grandparents gave him a Book of Mormon/D&C; his Catholic grandmother gave him a nice LDS/KJV Bible. With our next child's baptism, we're planning to have 5×7 sheets of paper and pens/colored pencils available for everyone in attendance to write a note to her while she's dressing, with a special thought, their testimony, a remembrance of their own baptism, wishes for her continued spiritual growth, etc; we'll put them in her journal. Some friends did this at their daughter's baptism, and it kept a really lovely spirit present; some of the most tender notes came from non-LDS friends who were so loving and supportive, and shared beautiful testimonies of our Savior.
We also keep the whole family involved in celebrating after, with family favorite recipes and foods, and some low-key family time all together.

Saw your question. There appears to be a number of approved patterns. I saw them today but no instructions. Since most of them have a repeated pattern it is probably best to find a motif that matches most closely the pattern you like and go from there. These are really works of art that can be created by the maker with all of the artistic style you can muster.
