New Scripture Mastery Passages for Book of Mormon 2013

Today another Seminary teacher came to observe my classroom (more on that later), and she mentioned something that the kids had talked about in class yesterday: the scripture mastery passages have changed!  I decided to take a quick look this afternoon before the kids get home to see what changes have been made. There are 8 changes to the Book of Mormon scripture mastery list as best I can tell….

Valentine’s Day Scripture Chase

So we wanted to come up with a fun way to do a scripture chase.  We found scriptures that fit with a Valentines theme… So we thought conversational hearts was super cute– the girls worked together to match up the hearts to the scriptures and find the answers.

We divided up the girls into 2 groups to race with each other   They received the scripture reference  then they had to read it out loud, run to the candy bowl, pick out the conversational heart that it best matched with, run back to the group and read the next scripture.

The first team to complete this game won a sticker- I am sure we could have found something better- but stickers are fun!

Afterwards we went into the kitchen to decorate cupcakes with hearts and candy sprinkles.

These girls are super fun!!

Here is the list of Scriptures we used- but you may have to find the scriptures that best match your hearts:
John 3:16

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.—
”ONLY ME”

34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.—
 “LOVE ONE”

21 And now as I said concerning faith—faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true.—
”IT’S TRUE”

4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.—
”YOU ROCK”

18 Yea, blessed is this people who are willing to bear my name; for in my name shall they be called; and they are mine.—-”BE MINE”

36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.—
”TRUE ONE”

30 And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down.—
”COME NEAR”

30 And it came to pass that the angel spake unto me again, saying: Look!  And I looked, and I beheld the heavens open again, and I saw angels descending upon the children of men; and they did minister unto them.—
”ANGEL”

7 Ask, and it shall be given unto you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.—
”ASK ME”

31 And ye my flock, the flock of my pasture, are men, and I am your God, saith the Lord God.—
”U R MINE”
2 And it came to pass that he spake unto me, saying: Behold I have dreamed a dream, in the which the Lord hath commanded me that thou and thy brethren shall return to Jerusalem.—
”DREAM”

2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being ofone accord, of one mind.—
“ONE LOVE”

Moses

Here’s the lesson report for Monday – Thursday this week. Exodus 1-2 Today we began the story of Moses and the Exodus. I debated for a while whether or not to focus this lesson in on courageous women or courageous people. I went back and forth for several days trying to decide whether it would come off too feminazi to focus in on just the courageous women…. Eventually I decided…

Prophets speak for Heavenly Father

Primary Talks

I skipped up the dusty drive, past the gray stone houses nestled in bright purple blossoms, and into the open doorway. Mother pushed back her damp hair and set a bucket of muddy water down. It was Monday, the day she washed the walls and rinsed away the dirt that blew in with the winds. Monday was also important because of family home evening. My brothers, Chris and Trenton, and…

Prophets speak for Heavenly Father

Primary Talks

I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded (1 Ne. 3:7). My name is William Paul McCallister, but everyone calls me Willy. I’m ten years old, and last year my parents decided that our family would go to general conference in Salt Lake City. We live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, so it was a long drive for us. Then we had to stand in line a…

Keep the Commandments Scavenger Hunt

Sing “Keep the Commandments” (CS, pp. 146–147). Talk about the importance of knowing what the commandments are so that we can keep them. Have a scripture “scavenger hunt” to “collect” some commandments. Post the following scripture references (but not the words in parentheses) against the chalkboard: Alma 13:28–29 (pray); D&C 1:37 (study scriptures); Ex. 20:8–11 (keep the Sabbath holy); D&C 59:9–12 (attend church and take the sacrament); D&C 119:4 (pay…

Life is a Journey- Not an Obstacle!

Object Lesson

This lesson is different than any ‘obstacle course’ object lesson, but it has a great point. Often times in life, we place obstacles in our way that really don’t need to be there. Such obstacles include our own weaknesses, sins, pride, grudges, drama, stress, envy- you name it! Other ‘obstacles’ might really not be obstacles at all, but we might choose to make them that way such as daily scripture…
