Blog post

This is the blog of Jenny Smith. I mostly blog about my calling in the LDS or Mormon Church.

Strongbad

A couple of years back I was introduced to StrongBad by a Homestar Runner fan on our family website. Back when Mormon Share started going up and down, I started a list of StrongBads that were my favorite. Here’s the partially complete list. This list is in reverse chronological order, so you should start at the bottom if you’re not familiar with StrongBad. Jenny’s Favorite StrongBad emails: Lappy http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail199.html –…

10,000 visitors?

AWStats says Mormon Share had over 10,000 visitors on Saturday, and nearly 8,000 on Sunday. I’m a little suspicious of those results. Heretofore, 7,000 has been the most I’ve had in one day. I don’t really have a good way to gauge it myself, because I got sick with the stomach flu on Saturday. I was totally bummed because I had to pass off the lesson (that I’ve been planning…

It’s alive……

It’s impossible to believe, but the website was up overnight under heavy load. Nearly 5,000 visitors yesterday and over 3,000 so far today — yay! Jared has been working very hard to fix all the problems we’ve been riddled with over the past few weeks. He’s also moving us to a faster server, but it’s beginning to seem now like it isn’t really necessary. But of course, I’m expecting to…

Arg

I’m still so frustrated! We can’t get the settings right on the server. Jared is doing some more research now to see if he can figure out what to do. I am _so_ ready to have this finished. He did get all the old forum posts imported last week. The phpbb2drupal module was actually pretty slick. Christmas went well. It was nice to have a quiet holiday. It was just…

Wow

The site has been live for only 6 hours today, and so far 13 people have registered. One has even commented! Wow! And this is a slow day — only 1000 visitors so far this morning, and many of those would have been after the site went live. Yay!

Frustration

I started a long, beautiful post about our trip to Disney World, which was lost when Firefox crashed as I was scrolling down to save it. I am just not meant to blog about vacations, I guess. Then the website was totally down for several days due to some error on Jared’s part. The site has been live twice now, but the db queries (read: load) keep crashing the server….

Optimization

I’ve been working on trying to optimize the new platform for MormonShare.com over the past week or so, and it hasn’t been easy. Sure, the new features of the website are phenomenal, but it’s really taxing the server it’s running on and I haven’t yet been able to figure out why. Please remain patient as we try to work out the rest of the quirks in the system, and hopefully…

Checking In

Did my weigh-in yesterday at the gym and almost had a heart failure. 146 lbs! How could I gain 10 lbs in a week? I knew something had to be wrong, so I put away my stuff and went to work out anyway. Turns out “put away my stuff” was the operative phrase. I had weighed myself holding my purse and radio and gym clothes! Ha! When I got off…
