Downloaded from: http://brosimonsays.wordpress.com/2013/05/06/1-peter-1-5-peters-principles-prepare-peculiar-people-2-day-lesson/ This was such a success! The positive feedback that I received from the students as a result of this lesson makes me feel that it may have been their best experience all year. They felt like they could really evaluate where they stand as a member of the Church, and they absolutely LOVED being able […]

Titus I can’t find any notes on this …. How on earth am I still in this calling. Philemon Philemon didn’t seem to have anything of particular value doctrine-wise, so I gave the kids a little background on it and we did scripture mastery.

James 1-2 I decided to split James into two themes: on the first day, I focused on the scripture masteries, and on the second, we did a review type lesson. This worked pretty well. We spent a few minutes doing our scripture sort. Then I gave an introduction to James, based on at least some of the reading. I kept feeling that I needed to leave out an account of his…

We covered the book of Hebrews in 4 lessons, all in one week. It felt fast, and it was. Hebrews 1-2 I am trying to do better with scripture mastery, and so I am working on getting the kids to learn the references and key phrases. Today I put up the four references from Corinithians on the board and asked the kids for the topics they address. I asked “How…

I used this To Do List with the idea from the Seminary Lesson manual when teaching about the doers of the word. After reading James 1:22-25, students were given several minutes to look over James 1-5 and to write down ways they can be doers of the word. The quote is from For the Strength of Youth (2012 version).

I used this document during our discussion of Hebrews 11, however, the quotes are great for any lesson on faith. ___________________ Faith “I recognize two kinds of faith. The first is the kind which is apparent in the world. It is the common denominator of most everything that goes on. It is the thing that lets us exist. It is the thing that gives us some hope of getting…

Downloaded from: http://brosimonsays.wordpress.com/2013/04/22/2-timothy-1-4-perilous-problems-and-scripture-solutions/ In small groups, students began by creating a list of common sins in our society. We listed a few on the board and compared our list to Paul’s list in 2 Timothy 3:1-5. Just as President Packer illustrated in a talk he gave, we were able to see that Paul’s list is a perfect “checklist” […]

Downloaded from: http://ldsseminary.wordpress.com/2013/04/19/1st-and-2nd-thessalonians-becoming-converted/ Much of the discussion in 1st Thessalonians has to do with becoming converted to Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 1:7-10, 2:12, 3:12-13, and 4:1-5 all emphasize the importance of Christians “walking the walk” of a Christ-centered life. As it is stated … Continue reading →

Downloaded from: http://brosimonsays.wordpress.com/2013/04/19/1-timothy-1-6-honored-of-god-not-despised-of-men-counsel-for-you-th/ Understanding WHO Timothy was and WHAT Timothy did can help us understand HOW Paul’s epistle to him applies to US. We compared the For the Strength of Youth (FSOY) booklet to Paul’s epistle to Timothy. Students discovered and shared counsel that was given by Paul to Timothy that corresponded to counsel given by President Monson to the youth. By […]

Downloaded from: http://brosimonsays.wordpress.com/2013/04/18/2-thessalonians-1-3-apostasy-and-restoration-dont-fall-away-today/ Students discovered some of the key elements of Christ’s true church by using the True to the Faith booklet to determine what was lost as a result of the Apostasy or what was revealed as part of the Restoration. To help visualize, we wrote down those elements on disposable cups. Students explained the necessity of each one. […]
