I was hoping that someone could help me find the music/CD for the song “Able to Stand”. I’ve tried to contact Marci Carter who wrote this song with her brother Kevin Holgate. I’ve emailed her at [email protected], the address listed on another site, but keep getting delivery failure notices.

    Thanks for your help,
    Jana

I can’t find any more information on this for you other than what’s on the ywconnection website. The problem with that site is that much of it is very old information. The last LDS music I can see online by Kevin Holgate, Marci’s co-artist, was written in 1997. I’m sure that’s why your email address is bad. It’s probably over 10 years old.

You can try this email address, [email protected] , so see if there’s any more information.

    Jenny,

Thanks for looking into it for me. Heavenly Father must really want me to use this for our girls. I kept searching the internet, tried to contact Alice from YW Connection, but still nothing. It wasn’t until later that I noticed that the sister that originally submitted the post mentioned that she was from Bakersfield CA. and that Marci had been in her Stake. I did a search for Marci Carter through Dex Online and found her!!! I spoke to her husband and he gave me her new email which is…

    [email protected]

I haven’t heard back from her yet, but at least I found her! I’ll post again when I get more info.

    Thanks again,
    Jana

P.S. Love your site and use it all the time!

    Hi,
I was looking at the most recent posts and read yours. I was looking at other sites (ywconnection) out there for girls camp information and came across this and remembered seeing someones plea for information regarding the subject below. You may have already seen and found this but I would hate to not notify you incase you have not seen it. I copied and pasted the information below. At least the words are there for the song you are looking for. Thank you..

    Scripture Reference: D&C 27:15.
My camp director, Marci Carter, is the most inspired and inspiring woman in the world. With her brother, Kevin Holgate, they compose music together and came up with songs for camp entitled “Able to Stand” and “Anchored to Christ”. It’s written the way the girls love to sing these songs. Kevin was diagnosised with a rare form of cancer and recently passed away.. Composing music was a therapy for both of them. If interested in obtaining the CD and/or sheet music, contact Marci at [email protected] The proceeds from this music will benefit Kevin’s family.

The cost per CD, which includes “Able to Stand”, “Anchored to Christ”, and sheet music for both, is $7.00 – includes S/H. The CD has vocal and instrumental versions.

If you would like to purchase the items seperately, the cost per CD is $7.00 plus l.50 for S/H. Sheet music is available for $1.00 per song, plus $l.50 S/H. Larger orders subject to additional shipping costs). CA residents subject to state tax. Please include mailing address with order.

    Able to Stand

The signal is sounded at breaking of dawn.
I fall to my knees for the strength to go on.
The enemy’s legions refuse to retreat,
delight in my struggle, applaud my defeat.
    I tremble to think,
I must stand on my own.
    Then gently he whispers,
    “You’re never alone.”

    Chorus

At the battle cry, I am at His side.
I’m wounded. I’m weary, but willing to fight.
    It’s a choice I make, my life’s at stake.
I’ll take His hand, that I may be able to stand.

For what does it profit a man if the goal’s
to gain the whole world, but he loses his soul?
Each battle I fight against pride, against sin
will stand as a witness that I’ll follow Him.
Bearing His name and an armor of light,
I’m shielded by faith in His infinite might.

Chorus – with last line being
‘Though others may fall, I will be able to Stand

This is the submission I originally saw on YW connection that got me looking for more info. The address listed there is out of date, but I did find Marci and now I’m just waiting to hear back from her.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post this for me though.

Did you find anything out from her? Do you know of how I can get the sheet music and/or cd? Let me know because we were planning on doing it for Girls Camp this year. Thanks

Hm. This is an old mystery…..

There is a mail order business called Ovation Station in Bakersfield at this location:

    Ovation Station
    10013 Roehampton Ave
    Bakersfield, CA 93312
    Tel: (661) 587-9793

that may be able to help you. Please keep in mind that information from ywconnection.com is often very old. I did see a notation from Alice on the page here:
    http://www.ywconnection.com/Camp/pageCabletostand.html

that says the music is no longer available. I hate to discourage anyone, but I think it’s going to be very difficult to find this music anywhere online….

I did a search for songs relating to the similar theme “courage to stand” and got this song:
    http://www.asabbathblog.com/2009/04/courage-to-stand-camporee-theme-song.html

It’s not LDS, but I think it’s pretty great.
