Keep the Commandments Signs and Box

I made a cardboard '10 Commandments' to hold my visuals for Keep the Commandments. I laminated the visuals and used Velcro to hold them on. I didn't do any duplicate visuals even though there is lots of repetition in the song. I just pointed to the pictures the as we sang it so their eyes learned where to go. (To print similar graphics click here.) Then I taught simple signs, see below.

Keep the commandments; keep the commandments!
In this there is safety; in this there is peace.
He will send blessings;                     do the He sign upwards
He will send blessings.
Words of a prophet:
Keep the commandments.
In this there is safety and  peace.

We are His children; We are His children,
and we must be tested to show we are true.
Hold to His promises;
Hold to His promises,
Heeding the  prophets:
Keep the commandments.
In this there is safety and peace.

Keep the Commandments Signs and Box
I'm excited to do some gospel teaching with this song. At the beginning of Singing Time I will ask them to think about the question "Why does the Lord ask us to keep commandments?" And tell them I'll ask for their answers at the end of Singing Time.

I made a Commandment Box with several items that represent a commandment. The idea is to have a child pick out an item and tell which commandment it represents, and with the Senior Primary, ask what blessings come from keeping that commandment. The box could be passed around as we sing and when the music stops, the person holding it reaches in and pulls out an item.

Things in my Commandment Box

Picture of Christ with Children - Love the Lord thy God
Hearts - Love thy neighbor as thyself
Tie - Keep the Sabbath Day Holy
Apron - Honor thy Father and Mother
Tithing Envelope - Pay Tithes and Offerings
Bowl - Law of Fast
Fruit - Word of Wisdom
Scriptures - Seek Wisdom
Picture of Temple - Make Covenants

At the end I hope the children will have lots of ideas about why we keep commandments. I hope to emphasize that keeping the commandments invites the Spirit which helps us choose the right and want to keep more commandments.
