Downloaded from: http://brosimonsays.wordpress.com/2013/04/19/1-timothy-1-6-honored-of-god-not-despised-of-men-counsel-for-you-th/ Understanding WHO Timothy was and WHAT Timothy did can help us understand HOW Paul’s epistle to him applies to US. We compared the For the Strength of Youth (FSOY) booklet to Paul’s epistle to Timothy. Students discovered and shared counsel that was given by Paul to Timothy that corresponded to counsel given by President Monson to the youth. By […]

Downloaded from: http://brosimonsays.wordpress.com/2013/04/18/2-thessalonians-1-3-apostasy-and-restoration-dont-fall-away-today/ Students discovered some of the key elements of Christ’s true church by using the True to the Faith booklet to determine what was lost as a result of the Apostasy or what was revealed as part of the Restoration. To help visualize, we wrote down those elements on disposable cups. Students explained the necessity of each one. […]

Downloaded from: http://brosimonsays.wordpress.com/2013/04/16/1-thessalonians-1-5-walk-with-god-what-how-why/ “You can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk?” An age-old challenge for every Christian! We know the right answers, but are we choosing the right? We started our lesson by creating acrostic poems for the word WALK. It was just a regular acrostic to get the concept down and focus on the word WALK. Students shared a few and then created another acrostic for…

Downloaded from: http://brosimonsays.wordpress.com/2013/04/15/colossians-1-4-catch-phrases-on-christ-and-christian-conduct/ The effect of the encroaching heresy [an odd blend of Jewish religion and Greek philosophy] was to diminish the preeminence of Jesus Christ. Paul corrected this false idea by teaching that Christ is the very image of God, that He is the Creator, the Head of the Church, the first to be resurrected, a member of the Godhead, the Redeemer, and the “hope of the gospel, which ye have heard” (Colossians 1:15–23). We began the activity by defining what a catch-phrase is. We then demonstrated our understanding by recalling common catch-phrases that students are familiar with today–both worldly and religious. Once we had firmly established what a catch-phrase was we did a little experiment to test the epistle for catch-phrases. I asked each student to pick a random verse from any chapter…

Downloaded from: http://brosimonsays.wordpress.com/2013/04/15/philippians-1-4-flecks-of-gold-for-scripture-49ers/ Philippi had a “rich” history based in GOLD. This background is a great way to set up the content and context of Paul’s epistle to the Philippians (a good overview of this is found at: http://www.ldolphin.org/pphilippi.html). This Mormon Message, FLECKS OF GOLD, is a great illustration of what it is like studying Philippeans and the other epistles of the New Testament. Many times they are ignored because they…

Downloaded from: http://brosimonsays.wordpress.com/2013/04/10/ephesians-6-the-whole-armor-of-god/ How do we put on the whole armor of God so that we may, as Paul promises, “be able to withstand in the evil day”? Elder M. Russell Ballard said, “I like to think of this spiritual armor not as a solid piece of metal molded to fit the body but more like chain mail. […]
