Today another Seminary teacher came to observe my classroom (more on that later), and she mentioned something that the kids had talked about in class yesterday: the scripture mastery passages have changed! I decided to take a quick look this afternoon before the kids get home to see what changes have been made. There are 8 changes to the Book of Mormon scripture mastery list as best I can tell….

Downloaded from: http://seminaryatsixam.blogspot.com/2013/04/do-you-want-donut.html Teaching Atonement, Justification, Sanctification, Salvation, Grace, and Mercy. Click HERE for a very effective class participation activity. It was powerful for my students. At first they looked at me with puzzled early morning looks but quickly the lights were turning on and they “got it” As their classmate had to continue doing push ups whether they wanted a donut or NOT. Before you do this with your class, be…

Downloaded from: http://brosimonsays.wordpress.com/2013/04/29/hebrews-11-13-a-w-e-some-faith/ To understand the first board you will have to watch part of the video below, “Seek Learning by Faith” by Elder David A. Bednar, from minute 4:00 – 7:15. There is also a great example given by Elder Bednar from minute 7:15 – 8:30. I used minutes 4:00-9:20 with my classes. He teaches this MUCH […]

Downloaded from: http://brosimonsays.wordpress.com/2013/04/28/hebrews-1-13-7-little-words-and-1-big-god/ I want to start out by giving credit to Back On The Floor Again for the idea for this lesson. I was able to do what I hope other’s do with my posts. That is, I was able to see what was done in their seminary class and tweak it to fit the needs of my students. I […]

I used this document during our discussion of Hebrews 11, however, the quotes are great for any lesson on faith. ___________________ Faith “I recognize two kinds of faith. The first is the kind which is apparent in the world. It is the common denominator of most everything that goes on. It is the thing that lets us exist. It is the thing that gives us some hope of getting…

Downloaded from: http://seminaryatsixam.blogspot.com/2013/04/who-am-i-general-conference-review.html The week after General Conference, I used this as a review. As my students entered the classroom, I placed a name tag on their backs. Each student had the name of a current apostle or member of the first presidency.**I have more than 15 students, so see below for adaptation ideas.Asking questions that could only be answered with a yes or a no, they had to guess the name…

Downloaded from: http://brosimonsays.wordpress.com/2013/04/23/titus-truths-and-philemons-forgiveness/ President Boyd K. Packer taught: “True doctrine, understood, changes attitudes and behavior. The study of the doctrines of the gospel will improve behavior quicker than a study of behavior will improve behavior” (in Conference Report,Oct. 1986, 20; or Ensign, Nov. 1986, 17). As mayor of Nauvoo, Joseph was called upon to render judgment on Anthony, a black man who had not only been selling […]

This is a one-page sheet of the New Testament Scripture Mastery Phrases from the back of the NT bookmark. I am using it in my classroom to help students learn to match the phrase with the keyword. Print out a sheet for each student, and let them match the scripture reference with the keyphrase. The least messy way to use this sheet is to have students cut out the references…

Downloaded from: http://seminaryatsixam.blogspot.com/2013/04/missionary-preparation-outward-and.html Paul as a Missionary and Missionaries TodayWe discussed the preparations a missionary makes and compared our preparations to Paul’s preparations. We discussed why Paul was so effective and could each with power (he focused on the spiritual-inward preparations and did not concern himself with what the world thought of him)One of my students recently received a mission call and I began the lesson asking about the instructions he…

Downloaded from: http://brosimonsays.wordpress.com/2013/04/22/2-timothy-1-4-perilous-problems-and-scripture-solutions/ In small groups, students began by creating a list of common sins in our society. We listed a few on the board and compared our list to Paul’s list in 2 Timothy 3:1-5. Just as President Packer illustrated in a talk he gave, we were able to see that Paul’s list is a perfect “checklist” […]
