“Importance of a personal testimony” is the topic of the RS portion of our Ward Conference tomorrow. The Stake RS President has asked me and my Education counselor to speak for 10 minutes on the topic. Whoa. Who knew it would take so long to write a 10 minute talk. I bet it took 5 hours. Of course, a little over 1 hour was printing up the visual aids on…

He that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise (Prov. 12:15). Throughout my life, I have received “golden nuggets” of counsel and inspiration from the people around me. Some of those nuggets came from Primary teachers. I was a rambunctious (lively and somewhat mischievous) child who spent many hours sitting outside the classroom door in the time-out spot. More than a few times, my teachers went to my mother, the stake Primary…

Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. (Amos 3:7) Many peaceful events that happened before I was twelve years old were influenced by those sustained as prophets, seers, and revelators. When I was about seven years old, I attended stake conference with my family. Afterward, we waited in a long line down the side of the chapel to shake hands…

Thunder clapped and lightning flashed almost constantly outside the cabin window as Louisa Bingham Lee stood kneading a large batch of bread dough on the kitchen table. Beside her was her mother, who was knitting a pair of stockings, and three of Louisa’s children were playing about the room. The Lee children were always fascinated when a powerful thunderstorm rolled through their peaceful valley in Clifton, Idaho, so Louisa propped…

Between the kids and I working yesterday, and Paige’s help on Wednesday, we’ve planted 400 daffodil bulbs! I can not wait until next spring to see how they look. I’ve planted some by the gate, on our side of the fence, and some in drifts by the road. the last 100 will probably go along the sidewalk or in large bunches by the front and back steps. I still have…

If ye love me, keep my commandments (John 14:15). The Savior, as the Son of God, showed you and me the great example of obedience in keeping the commandments of His Father. Nephi tells us that Christ was baptized so that men can follow in His footsteps and receive the Holy Ghost: “Know ye not that he was holy? But notwithstanding he being holy, he showeth unto the children of…

“I am a child of God, and he has sent me here. Has given me an earthling home, with parents kind and dear….” That DD of mine makes me laugh. She got up this morning and wrote a talk and drew a picture of the temple completely all by herself. It was really cute: “I Love seeing Pichers of the temple Becuse it maks me Happy! When I am older…

I had a good topic to blog about….. thought of it while I was cutting the grass earlier, but now I can’t remember it. That’s what 2.5 hours of riding lawn mower racket will do to your brain, I guess. Conference was good. The weather was so nice today it was a real challenge to stay inside and listen. And I fell asleep during the afternoon session. Again. I haven’t…

President Ezra Taft Benson has said, “The Book of Mormon brings men to Christ. The Doctrine and Covenants brings men to Christ’s kingdom, even The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, ‘the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth’ ” (Ensign, May 1987, page 83). Unlike the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and the Pearl of Great Price, the Doctrine and Covenants is a…

I am a child of God. I know that he created me, and that he created me to look like Him. I’d like to share with you part of a conference talk by Elder M. Russel Ballard. To truly reverence the Creator, we must appreciate His creations. We need to take time with our families to share the miracle of buds changing into fragrant blossoms, to sit on a hillside…
