Your Once Upon A Time Is Now
*
INSPIRED BY
*
“In most languages there exists a phrase as magical and full of promise as perhaps any in the world. That phrase is ‘Once upon a time.’ Aren’t those wonderful words to begin a story? ‘Once upon a time’ promises something: a story of adventure and romance, a story of princesses and princes. It may include tales of courage, hope, and everlasting love. In many of these stories, nice overcomes mean and good overcomes evil. But perhaps most of all, I love it when we turn to the last page and our eyes reach the final lines and we see the enchanting words ‘And they lived happily ever after.’ Isn’t that what we all desire: to be the heroes and heroines of our own stories, to triumph over adversity, to experience life in all its beauty, in the end, to live happily ever after?… Sisters, we love you. We pray for you. Be strong and of good courage. You are truly royal spirit daughters of Almighty God. You are princesses, destined to become queens. Your own wondrous story has already begun. Your ‘once upon a time’ is now.”

OUR 2013 YW CAMP THEME SONG
My Story, by Katie Witcomb – from the 2012 EFY Album
*
There were so many amazing moments that took place during the week. So many special experiences to take note of. And so many hands and hours spent to make it all happen. Thank you to all those who made it seem as if it only took a wave of a magical wand to make it happen.
*
Here is just a glimpse of our enchanting week at camp:

GROUP ASSIGNMENTS/COLORS
*
They were each assigned to either the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year cabins.
*
*
Each girl received a booklet (mini composition book from DollarTree 3/1.00, the pages below were glued into the books beforehand) and a twig pencil to answer the questions at each “stop” along their journey with Snow White.
*
It was explained that they were about to go on a journey with Snow White. A lantern (the light of Christ and/or the Holy Ghost) was provided for the group to follow as they traveled from one “stop” to the next. We lead them to 6 different locations set-up within camp. At each “stop” a question was presented. Next, there was a brief discussion/mini lesson lead by a member of the Stake YW Presidency. Then the question was presented again. The girls were given a few minutes to write their answers/thoughts in their booklets before traveling to their next destination. Here is a brief look at each “stop” along their journey with Snow White:
**
1. Mirror/Mirror – Self Esteem/Comparison
*
The Queen looked to the Magic Mirror often asking the question, “Magic mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?” She did not know of her own worth and needed to hear it from someone else.

*
Snow White stood at the wishing well, wishing and hoping for love. The Prince hears her and answers with “I have but one song,. One song, only for you. One heart tenderly beating, ever entreating, constant and true. One love that has possessed me. One love thrilling me through. One song my heart keeps singing. Of one love. Only for you.”
*
Possible Resources – For Strength of Youth: Dress and Appearance/Dating/Sexual Purity, Personal Progress: Virtue, Fishing for Piranhas
*
Snow White did not know who she was serving to begin with. She only knew that there was a need. As the Seven Dwarfs came to know her, as she cared for and served them, a relationship of friendship and love grew. Even Grumpy. :)

4. The Huntsman – Integrity
*
*
The Huntsman was given the task to find Snow White and kill her -bringing her heart back to the Queen in a box as proof. Knowing that he would most likely be killed if he did not complete the task, made the choice to let not only let Snow White live, but tell her of the Queen’s evil intentions.
*
Possible Resources – For Strength of Youth: Honesty and Integrity, Personal Progress: Integrity
*
*
The Evil Queen offered Snow White an apple promising, “One bite and all your dreams will come true”. There are baskets and baskets of both good and bad apples presented to us on a daily basis.
Note: Just for fun, there was a basket of apples for the girl to snack on at this “stop” on their journey.
*
Possible Resources – For Strength of Youth: Entertainment and Media, Personal Progress: Choice and Accountability
*
*
Snow White went into a sleeping death after taking a bite of the poisoned apple. Only true loves kiss would break the curse. When we find ourselves in situations where our spirits are sleeping, it is through the love of our Savior that we are awaken.

Fireside Discussion and Wrap-Up
*
*
The journey ended back at the bonfire. We discussed their journey here on earth and the many different paths and “stops” along the way. One of those being the temple. We talked about those things they have, which combined, create a wonderful map: the scriptures, words of the prophets, their patriarchal blessings, for strength of youth, personal progress, prayer and personal revelation. Their companions on this journey – their parents, family, good friends and leaders. And their compass – the Holy Ghost.
*
Gift
Each girl was given a Scrabble tile necklace with a photo of the Salt Lake Temple – a reminder. :)

- All Camp Activity – The first day of camp each girl was given a punch card. Throughout the week, if they chose to do so, they could work on Personal Progress and memorize a daily scripture. Little did they know that come Friday, each punch of the card would give them more ammunition for the flour war – which was held secret – on Friday. After the flour war was over and the winners were announced one of the YCL2 (seniors) had everyone gather in and sit down. She did a wonderful wrapping up the flour war and explaining the importance of being prepared to “defeat the dragon” – working on personal progress, scripture study, prayer, etc.

Sister Missionary Night!
Downloaded from: http://ldsywideasandactivities.blogspot.com/2013/04/sister-missionary-night.html For our joint (all-girls) activity this week we had a special Sister Missionary night! We had heard from several recently returned Elders (and a newly called Elder on his way to the MTC) within the past few months, but nothing specifically for the girls. Since there are so many more girls going on missions now, I thought it would be good to have a special night focusing…

Missionary Preparation-Outward And Inward
Downloaded from: http://seminaryatsixam.blogspot.com/2013/04/missionary-preparation-outward-and.html Paul as a Missionary and Missionaries TodayWe discussed the preparations a missionary makes and compared our preparations to Paul’s preparations. We discussed why Paul was so effective and could each with power (he focused on the spiritual-inward preparations and did not concern himself with what the world thought of him)One of my students recently received a mission call and I began the lesson asking about the instructions he…

1 Corinthians 15 – 2 Corinthians 13
Yes, we really did read all these chapters in a single week. My kids rule. 1 Corinthians 15-16 I was super excited about this lesson because of the three scripture mastery passages in 1 Corinthians 15, but it snowed. In March. AGAIN. So we missed out on my lesson. I had planned to open with a discussion of the Law of Witnesses and how it relates to missionary work (establishes…

1 Corinthians 1-14
Ocassionally I get a comment or email from a teacher lamenting that I’m behind them on the lesson schedule. It may be rough for the three or four people that read this blog, but for me, it’s fantastic. I get to see everyone else’s ideas before I need to give my lesson. But last year and this, I start to catch up with other teachers in March — just in…

Song: We’ll Bring The World His Truth (V1)
Downloaded from: http://ocdprimarychorister.blogspot.com/2013/03/song-well-bring-world-his-truth-v1.html Verses 2 and 3 will follow in another post. For this song, I created a flipchart with words and no associated learning activity. This is because, although I am using the song as the March program song, many choristers will just want to sing it as an extra. If you want the pictures without words, feel free to copy and paste the images below into your own format!…

Acts 13-20
Monday of this week was a free day. I planned to celebrate birthdays with a party and watch movies, but my class president didn’t organize the food, so we ended up just watching Bible Video movies. Not great. I don’t like wasting time like that. Acts 13-14 – Paul’s First Mission My lesson objective this day was to talk about why some people accept the gospel while others do not,…

We All Have Different Talents and Abilities
We also Talked about how we should appreciate other peoples talents, and how we can develop our own talents by learning from others.
Here was a cute Matt and Mandy Developing Talents Episode we shared in class.
When we use our talents we are promised blessings- we will have an increase in our talents, and be blessed.
I found this fun video on you tube and showed it to my group… Its about two missionaries that share their talents and the gospel. It teaches that all our talents that we have or are developing, that we must use them to build up the kingdom of God. To share our talents, to use our gifts to share the gospel and to bring people unto Christ.
We called the Primary Chorister to ask her if our Activities Day group could help her plan and teach a song to the Primary during singing time. She was so willing to participate.
(I posted it the WMP and the MP4 …but it is also available for you to download from the above link- look to the right side and you will find the link to download the ASL version-
I really like this version best.)
Now we plan to teach it to our Senior and Junior Primary group. It will be a lot of work but the girls seem to like a fun challenge. We will do this till they have their Primary Program later this year.
I hope you have fun with this-
