I sent the following message to LDSAudio.com this morning:

I am removing my affiliate links to LDSAudio after speaking with one of the artists whose music you list on your site.

Last year I made well over $300 in affiliate income from my only link to LDSAudio: the Jenny Phillips 2006 YW themed album. You sold some $2500 worth of music from my links alone, for which Jenny has not received any sort of payment from her distributor, Deseret Book. DB tells her they have received no payment from you.

I will not affiliate myself with those who are dishonest in their business dealings. The Jenny Smith family of LDS websites receives well over 150,000 visitors monthly — an audience I will no longer help you reach.

I should note that the person in charge of affiliate accounts and marketing changes every 4-5 months at LDSAudio. I expect that they mistreat their staff as well as their business associates.

I have had problems with LDSAudio as well, essentially bait-and-switch sales tactics. I am not sure what the relationship is between the LDS church and LDSAudio but dishonest behavior on the part of a company that shares the the name reflects poorly on the church.

While it is not an honesty issue I can’t help but feel unimpressed by LDS Library 2009. It doesn’t have much more content and my old Gospelink 2000 and the interface is not as good.

I recommend staying away from these folks.

LDSAudio as I knew it closed their doors roughly two years ago. I don’t know anything about who bought the domain and company (a domain search says the site is registered with Infobases), but apparently they are operating again.

I am not surprised they went out of business — not only because the market is so small, but the wholesale prices are just too high. I approached DB about distributing MP3s on my site about 2 years ago. Unfortunately, DB’s wholesale cost for distributing their downloadable music is too high, and I was unable to distribute the music profitably. I would only make around 10 cents per download, and that would be blown if I had to take even 1 support call. The market is also very small, which makes it extremely hard for LDS MP3 libraries of any kind to be profitable volume-wise. It’s really too bad that our LDS artists are suffering from lack of distributorship and the bad reputations of some companies — not to mention how hard it is to publicize them.
