Hi! Our MM and Laurels are all going on pioneer trek this year and since I am not going, I would like to have a special activity for the beehives and deacons.
We were thinking of some kind of hike with a historical background (we are in Utah)
any ideas would be very appreciated! Thanks

I know that This Is the Place park in Salt Lake has a trek-type activity they do. I don’t know if it’s available for young kids tho.
Once our ward did a hike through a wooded area, seems like it was that walking trail down by the Jordan River, and had members of the ward spaced at intervals and dressed up like pioneer ancestors give a short talk about their ancestor during the hike. I’ve also heard of similar activities taking place at some of the older cemetaries in the area.

Ensign Peak is where the saints first enetered the valley and there is a nice hike there. Also, a little more strenuous is Bells Canyon located just off Wasatch Boulevard, if you look carefully around the lower reservoir you can see rocks that have chisel marks in them. Watch for rattlesnakes, I have seen a few up there and I hiked it alot as a kid. The pioneers did quarry rocks for the SL temple out of this canyon as well as Little Cottonwood. There are also some beautiful waterfalls higher up although you need to know where they are off the main trail to find them as they are not marked. It is very steep and about 4 hours round trip to the first waterfall and back. :D Good luck!
