Our YW presidency was thinking of giving the 12 girls in our YW a mixed music CD. We wanted to include songs that are good, clean and spiritual. Is it ok to do something like this, or is it infringing copyright laws? It seems like such a great idea, especially considering some of these girls will probably never seek music like this out.
What are your thoughts?
This is probably infringing copyright laws. The way to keep your CD legal is
1) to buy a copy of each song you like from iTunes for each girl. So each song x 12
2) download only free music, like from the Church’s website (see http://youth.lds.org/ or http://lds.org/churchmusic )
You may also consider buying some of the inexpensive bulk CDs from http://jennyphillips.com/ . Those have been very popular with Young Women and leaders for years. Jenny Phillips comes out with a new CD each year that relates to the current mutual theme.
THIS WEBSITE WILL CEASE OPERATIONS ON DEC 31, 2018.
