Do like the Animals

"I found this in one of the books I inherited. I copied them out of the book and laminated them. But all you would need to do have a picture of them you found off the internet, or write down the names, or even just tell the children that this is what we are going to do.hop like a Kangaroosway like an elephantwiggle like a puppyclap like a sealrattle like a snakepeck like a woodpeckermarch like an antflap your arms like a butterflyscratch like a monkeyYou could think of your ownchomp like an alligatorwalk like a bearbounce like a bunnygallop like a horsesmile like a hyena Since...

Teach Me About The Temple

"The stake primary leaders in my stake have asked me to teach the song, Teach Me About The Temple to the Senior Primary children in my ward in preparation for November's Stake Conference. All the Senior Primary children in the stake will sing it together in a Stake Children's Choir, but I am going to teach it to the Junior Primary children in my ward as well. A sample of the song, Teach Me About The Temple, written by Lynne Perry Christofferson, can be heard here. My ward's Children's Sacrament Meeting Presentation is on October 24th this year, and Stake Conference is November 21st....this is...

Choose and Review - Three in a Row

"Three in a Row is a really easy review activity. Choose which songs need to be reviewed and then choose three words in a row from each song. Fold a strip of paper into thirds. Write the words on the sections of the papers and fold them back up. Put the papers into a can or basket to be chosen. Invite a child to choose a paper and read off the first word. Ask the other children if they can guess the song from just one word. If the children can't guess, have the child read the first and second words. Finally, read three in a row. If the songs are familiar, the children will guess right away....

A Boy and His Ball

"My sister had a "Back to fall" Boutique at her home Aug 23. Al and I went up. Before we left we went to the Walmart in town because they were clearancing out all their current stock of fabric before they move to their new building. Al was so good while it took so long to get all my fabric cut. As his reward I bought him this blue ball. He loved that ball. He hugged it until he fell asleep. So darling. "

Go Dbacks!

"I'm a Dback fan. My parents and in-laws are Dback fans (cute Dback clothes thanks to my in-laws). My husband can cheer for the Dbacks, as long as they aren't playing the White Sox. Back at the beginning of August we went up to Phoenix to go to a Dbacks game with my parents. It was going to be our only opportunity to go this year. It was a sold out game. We rode the light rail into downtown and watched the Dbacks play the Padres. At the start of the bottom of the ninth it looked like we were going to go into extra innings. It was late. We still have to drive ALL THE WAY HOME that...

FAIL on someone's part

"I gave this picture to my brother to post on failblog.org, Fail blog haven't used and its been a month so I'm posting it. I thought it was so funny. Both the Green and Yellow were lit on at the same time. Half the drivers going through the intersection didn't know how to handle it. there was even a cop out there for a little while and the driver were still confused and ignoring the police officer. I don't know what was causing it. There was a worker out there working on it. This was funny to me."

Activity Days idea: You Are Special

" source: ldsactivitydayideas.blogspot.com/ This blog has been neglected! Holy cow! I took a break from doing activities to take care of my now 6 week old baby but now summer is winding down, I'm feeling great and we are back at it! We started off the new school year with a spiritual activity, ending with a lot of laughter. I guess you could say I'm a little rusty as far as activities go, so the first portion of this activity is an idea I got from my sister. First of all, you will need the book You Are Special by Max Lucado. Are you familiar with it? I picked mine up on half.com...

Teaching Method - Action Substitutes

"If I put my finger to my lips, what word comes to your mind? “Action Substitutes” is another way to add movement as you teach a new song. For each phrase of the song choose one or two actions that will substitute for words in that phrase. For instance, pointing a finger to your head could replace the word “know.” Folding your arms could replace the words “pray” or “prayer.” Two steps in place could stand for the word “follow,” etc. Learn the song, substituting the action for the word. Practice singing it this way so that you can sing it without making too many mistakes. Believe me, this can...

Quick review idea

"HELLO! (...hello... hello... hello...) Anybody there? (...there...there...there...) Once again...I find myself appologizing for the lack of posts. With vacations, and school starting, I've been trying to find the "balance" between all things. Isn't that what I said last time too? Has anyone ever figured out "the balance"? We're getting closer, and I've neglected you long enough...So, the next few posts will be about review ideas. My program is not until Halloween, but I know some of yours' are coming up in the next few weeks, if you haven't had it already. I did this idea with my kids last...

Scripture Review

"We had a fantastic review of the program songs today using the scriptures annotated in the Children's Songbook. I was inspired by this "The Children Sing" post. I wrote the scripture reference on each paper and used them as bookmarks, having a child point to the paper he/she wanted. We read from my scriptures, discussed it's significance, then had fun guessing which song it referred to. I asked the children to try and reflect on the scripture we read as we sang the corresponding song. I bore testimony at the end of our singing time, that the principles in the scriptures and in the songs we...

Miracles Come To Those Who Have Faith

"My son gives the talk in Primary tomorrow. Thought I would share with all of you. We are using pictures from the Gospel Art Kit and the Gospel Art Book.Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is the first principle of the gospel.Faith is a “hope for things which are not seen, which are true” (Hebrews 11:1)By faith, miracles are wrought, angels appear, the gifts of the Spirit are given, prayers are answered, and men become the sons of God (Moroni 7:37)Here are a few examples from the Scriptures.Noah was commanded to build an ark and call repentance to the people, who were becoming wicked. A flood...

A Minute To Win It

"Or..."30 Seconds To Win It".  After all, I only have 20 precious minutes for music time (and sometimes less), so every second counts! It's the last Sunday of the month which means review time, and even more exciting, we have now learned ALL the program songs. Woohoo! *Pat yourself on the back and take a bow.*So, game show fanatic that I am (I actually tried to get on Millionaire a few times), we are going to play A Minute To Win It, except I am cutting each game to 30 seconds to save time. I will be modifying each game so that they can be done in 30 seconds.A Minute To Win It You...

“Come Unto Me” by Singing

"Jesus says to us “Come unto me.” Do you ever wonder how to do this? How can we actually do this? Of course we can pray. It is natural and instinctive to pray and doing so will bring us close to God. But don’t forget that we can sing as well as pray.Psalm 71:23 declares: “My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed.”I know two things. We come close to the Lord as we feel the spirit and that the Spirit is always near when we sing songs of praise. This means that we can come near to the Lord as often as we sing. My soul, which the Lord has redeemed...

You Are Special

"This blog has been neglected!  Holy cow!  I took a break from doing activities to take care of my now 6 week old baby but now summer is winding down, I'm feeling great and we are back at it!  We started off the new school year with a spiritual activity, ending with a lot of laughter.  I guess you could say I'm a little rusty as far as activities go, so the first portion of this activity is an idea I got from my sister.First of all, you will need the book You Are Special by Max Lucado.  Are you familiar with it?  I picked mine up on half.com for 99 cents but I...

Teaching Method - Actions

"It is a fact that movement helps children learn. While we know this fact, for some reason teachers seem to favor the methods which rely on visual aids. Learning music is naturally an auditory process and yet, when faced with a new song to teach, we choristers immediately write out the key words and almost automatically begin looking for pictures to match the phrases.I was reminded recently in a comment on one of my posts, that actions are often a more effective way to teach a song. How true! Actions appear on my master list of teaching methods, but I am glad to reconsider whether I use them...

5th Sunday Fun: Back To School (revised)

"All my primary kiddos are headed back to school next week, and I thought it would be fun to revisit this activity since it was a favorite last year. I've seen this idea around on many sites now, and I love some of the variations...so with those ideas and the crazy ideas of my own I've revised this a bit. The base of this revision came from a version of this idea posted on Sugardoodle by Erika Soelberg. Our program is scheduled for the end of October, and since I feel we have a lot of time and know the songs really well already..I thought we would set aside our program songs this time around...

Song Review - I Spy Game

"“I Spy” is a singing time game that reviews several songs in a fun way. A couple of weeks ago, using this month’s theme about miracles as an example, I looked for pictures of miraculous events in the Gospel Art Picture Kit (GAK) and then assigned one of our review songs to each picture. You can adapt “I Spy” to almost any theme, providing you can locate pictures. The game would work just as well with the upcoming themes of obedience, missionary work and service to others. When you’re ready for singing time, post the pictures on the chalkboard. Demonstrate to the children how to play the game...

1st & 2nd Week Sharing Time Idea for September: I Show love for Jesus Christ when I keep the commandments.

"Can you believe it....3 more months and this year is over! Seriously, where does the time go? I also can't believe that I'm posting my Sharing Time idea early!! :) haha. I had some extra time, so I decided to work on a Sharing Time idea for all of you.Alright, so I really love the idea that they have in the outline. But since 2 weeks are sharing this one topic I decided to come up with a few different ideas. I really liked the idea of having the children memorize the scripture, so I have included that in my Sharing Time idea. It is always great to have different things for the children...

Weight Watchers Update

"I'm still going! After long plateau I finally got my body past it by adding the elliptical to my daily routine.  I also started saving my weekly points to eat all on one day. I don't know if its both of them or just the elliptical but I got past the plateau and am on the loosing side again. Since then I've been averaging almost a pound and a half a week.  It won't get me to my goal by my desired date, but if I can keep it up I will be very close to my goal by the desired date. That feels good. I'm hoping this is sustainable. When I was at the doctor's office...

5th Sunday Sharing Time Idea for August

"I think the 5th Sunday is a perfect time to Review. You can review any topic you think would be good to go over, or just go over what the children learned that month. And since there isn’t an idea for the 5th Sunday you can make it extra fun. I think any game is perfect for reviewing and the children Love playing games. So, I have listed a few game ideas that I think would work great for this Sunday. I have also included a fun 'Cranium' game. Some of these games are probably better for Sr. Primary, but there are some that would work for Jr. Primary also. So here are...
