We had a very successful Stake Primary Activity today, Saturday, June 10, 2006. We based five different stations the children visited for 20 minutes each, on our theme, “Holding Hands Around the World.”
STATION #1-Make your own ‘Gospel Flag.’ Each child had a triangular banner made of craft foam and a baggie with 10 emblems representing things we can do to help ‘Build the Kingdom of God.’ These ideas came from the song, “Holding Hands Around the World.”
emblem 1-musical note (sing out the joyful word)
emblem 2-yellow flame (glow with the gospel light)
emblem 3-CTR sticker (choosing the right)
emblem 4-rectangle with words “Keep the Lord’s Commands
emblem 5-shield (go forth in faith)
emblem 6-heart (share)
emblem 7-hand with a heart(serve)
emblem 8-flower (give)
emblem 9-Savior sticker (believe & serve Jesus Christ)
emblem 10-cute name card that they wrote their own name on and glued in the center
ALL EMBLEMS, EXCEPT NAME CARD WERE CRAFT FOAM.
After the children made their flags there was a little discussion about the meaning of each emblem and ideas of where they can hang their banner to help remind them of these important things we can strive to do to ‘Build the Kingdom of God.’
STATION #2-Room set up in a campfire setting. A Brother in our Stake who is an artist shared some of his religious artwork and played his guitar while singing with the children a few of the reverent songs they’re learning for the Sacrament Program.
The idea of how all children around the world are singing the same songs in Primary and trying to live the Lord’s commands.
STATION #3-Making a quilt for Jacob…We have a four year old boy in our Stake who is battling cancer. Each child wrote their name on a queen-size sheet and had their hands painted so they could put their handprints above their name. Jacob’s mom was there and explained a little about his illness and how much this quilt will mean to him and their family.
THE IDEA OF HOW WE CAN REACH OUT TO OTHERS THAT LIVE IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD, WARD, & STAKE WAS TALKED ABOUT.
STATION #4-A woman from New Zealand and a Bishopric member who served his mission in New Zealand gave a presentation. The children wrote letters/drew pictures for children in New Zealand that will be sent to them and they will be writing back to us. Pictures were taken that will be emailed to a Branch President in New Zealand to share with the kids there. They, in turn, will write and send pictures back to the children in our Stake. THE IDEA THAT WE CAN REACH OUT AND MAKE NEW FRIENDS IN OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD WAS THE TOPIC OF DISCUSSION & THAT WE ARE ALL CHILDREN OF GOD.
STATION #5-Children decorated large baggies with stickers and wrote messages, “get well”, “hello friend”, etc. to decorate the bag. They then filled each bag with stickers, crayons, & activity books to give to children at a local hospital.
AFTER ALL STATIONS WERE VISITED, WE ALL MET IN THE CULTURAL HALL AND FORMED A BIG CIRCLE. THE PIANO WAS ROLLED INTO THE CENTER OF THE FLOOR AND ALL PRIMARY MUSIC DIRECTORS LEAD THE CHILDREN, TEACHERS, AND LEADERS IN SINGING, “Holding Hands Around the World” and “Scripture Power.”
It was so touching. Everyone had a good time and felt good about the service they performed that day (with their own hands), and they commented on how they loved being there with all the children in our Stake.
