Debbie Olson, compiler of this family feud data, gave me a copy of this when she subbed in my Seminary class this week. The kids loved it! Debbie compiled answers from over 400 Seminary students for 40 questions. There are two (one that uses keywords for scripture mastery and another about then-current leaders) that are probably not usable, but there are enough questions here for two or three full days…

These files are from the Old Testament manual for Institute. The original files were, unfortunately, filled with a weird pinky-orange background rendering them nearly impossible to photocopy and very difficult to read. I have taken the liberty of converting them to black and white and enlarging the text for readability. Now they are perfect for use in your classes when teaching about the measurements used in the Old Testament. The…

This handout shows the differences between the coinage and weights used during Old Testament times, including gerah, shekel, and talent. The original file from the OT Institute manual had a pink-ish background making it nearly impossible to photocopy. I removed the background and created this superior version. The file is still Copyright 2011, Intellectual Reserve. Used by permisison.

I created these license plate scripture mastery memorization aids today in preparation for my seminary class next year. They are Old Testament scriptures. I’ve included the files as printable PDFs and as JPGs so you can use them how ever you wish. The two files with the names that begin “licenseplate….” have the license tags with and without the scripture reference. They are created to be one per page so…

The original Magic Squares document by Janice Lee Griffith Tate is available at the old http://si.lds.org/ in the CES Conferences Section under Old Testament. Here’s a link: http://www.ldsces.org/old-testament/conference/ Problem is, the motions that go with the magic square are not described in the handout. I have a copy of one that a friend gave me, and I have created this handout that includes text to describe the actions. You should…

Here are the glue-ins I’m using for teaching the Plan of Salvation for Old Testament. Agency: The Greatest Decision We want our children and their children to know that the choice of life is not between fame and obscurity, nor is the choice between wealth and poverty. The choice is between good and evil, and that is a very different matter indeed. …Our lives are made up of thousands of…

The object of the game is very simple. Each card has a set of unrelated words. When you read them aloud, they sound like familiar phrases, names, places . For example “eye knome eye read dimmer leaves” Now say it a few times and take a good guess. The answer is “I know my Redeemer lives”. Wasn’t that fun!? The rules: Divide class into two teams. There are lots of…

This is the pacing guide, or reading schedule that I am using for my Seminary class. In my class, I ask the kids to read the material before class and then we discuss it. This isn’t the typical way, I know. I’m posting what I did here in case it helps home study students or teachers to see one way to break up the reading assignments. While I do not…

I created little cards for my Seminary class they could use to learn the 39 books of the Old Testament. These are color coded by the major divisions (law, history, poetical, prophets) to help them learn those divisions and aid in grouping. It just happened to work out that 2 sets of cards fits exactly on 3 pages. I laminated the cards and used them during class for timed competitions…

I don’t really consider this a “game” — at least not the way it was taught to me — but I have created these cards to teach the chronology of the Old Testament peoples. Here’s how it was taught to me. Write the following on the board: Adam | (6 chapters later) | Noah | (6 chapters later) | Abram/Abraham | two sons, Issac and Ishmael | Jacob/Israel | twelve…

This is an easy way to give students an overview of how the events in the Old Testament fit together. Updated in 2017 with a different version that my friend Brent shared with me. It’s the Margaret J Butler version you’ve seen a dozen times.

I was given a copy of the Old Testament Walk Through handout several months back by a friend for use in my Seminary class. I have no idea how to do this, but I think that it’s a method of learning the history of the Bible with hand motions and little rhymes. Old Testament Walk Through was prepared for the CES Teaching Fair on the Old Testament, 13-15 August 1991,…
