{Sharing Time} When I am baptized, I make a covenant with God.
Encourage understanding: Ask a child to come to the front of the room and hold his or her arms out. Then place a book in each hand. Read Mosiah 18:7–11. Explain that one of the covenants we make when we are baptized is to “bear one another’s burdens, that they may be light.” Ask the child holding the books if his or her arms are getting tired. Have two other children help hold up his or her arms. Discuss some burdens children might have, such as being teased, being sick, feeling alone, or struggling in school. Ask the children how they can help make each other’s burdens lighter.
{Sharing Time} Repentance brings Forgiveness
Introduce the doctrine: Invite the children to open their scriptures and read Doctrine and Covenants 58:42–43. Ask them to identify what happens when we repent of our sins. (If possible, invite the children to mark these verses in their scriptures.) Briefly tell the children about Enos (see Enos 1:1–4), and have a child read Enos 1:5–8. Testify that the Atonement of Christ makes it possible for us to be forgiven of our sins.
Encourage understanding: Explain that people who have repented and have been forgiven of their sins have a desire to serve God. Divide the children into three groups, and give each group one of the following pictures and scripture references: Alma baptizing in the Waters of Mormon (Mosiah 17:2–4; 18:1–17); Jonah (Jonah 1–3); the Anti-Nephi-Lehies burying their swords (Alma 23:4–18; 24:6–19). Explain that these stories tell about people who repented of their sins and served the Lord. Ask each group to review the scriptures and prepare and present a role play showing how these people repented and then served the Lord (by teaching the gospel, serving a mission, and refusing to fight).
I really love this visual that my husband did for a FHE just a couple weeks ago on repentance and I’d like to share with you!
It’s time to raid your kitchen!
First you’ll need 4 separate bowls (nothing fancy). I would also like recommend a cookie sheet to minimize the accidental mess that may happen.
In 2 of these bowls you will need “sticky items”. My husband used food colored yogurt and caramel syrup.
In 1 bowl put crushed cereal or crackers. My husband used crushed cereal.
In the last bowl put in plain water.
Begin the lesson with a story about a sin. Here’s what my husband did:
Sammy and his mom were at the store and he saw a candy that was one of his favorites. He asked his mom if he could have it, she said “not this time, Sammy”. Sammy wanted it so bad so he grabbed it and put it into his pocket when his mom wasn’t looking. (Dip your hand into one of your sticky items) On the way home, Sammy was sitting in his seat and couldn’t wait to eat his candy. As soon as he gets home he runs to his room and starts eating the candy. His mom knocks on his door and comes in to ask for his help unloading the car. Mom sees the candy on Sammy’s bed and asks where he got it from. Sammy says that he got it from school. (Dip your hand in the other sticky item)
*You can mention how after you’ve put your hand into your 2nd item that the first sticky is still there and now in the second one.
After mom left Sammy grinned to himself “I got away with it!” The next time Sammy and his mom went to the store he stole two candy bars. (Dip hand into the dry item)
* How would you feel after not making these choices like Sammy? How can Sammy become clean again after making these mistakes?
It is through the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the repentance process that Sammy and us are able to be forgiven of our mistakes. (Wash off hand in the water)
Here’s the Jumbo Cut-outs for the 3 scripture stories in the encourage portion of the outline: Alma & the Waters, Jonah, and the Anti-Nephi-Lehies and I’ve made them into a bundle for a great price!
Glue/tape the pieces on sticks for a fun way to retell the story. When you divide the Primary give an envelope with the scripture references and the story pieces. When the kids present the stories let them use the pieces to share the stories with the rest of the Primary.

The name Anti-Nephi-Lehi may mean that the new converts desired to become like Nephi and Lehi and may have chosen a new name that reflected their righteous desires. Studies show that in some languages there is a common root corresponding to the word anti that means “in the face of” or “facing,” like you would face a mirror. It may have a meaning similar to the word imitation. In this light the name Anti-Nephi-Lehies might refer to those who desire to imitate what the descendants of Nephi and Lehi taught (source)
The Anti-Nephi-Lehies valued their covenants more than their lives.
———————–
Because of the efforts of the sons of Mosiah many Lamanites had been converted to the gospel. They changed their lifestyle, their culture, their home, even their name.
They decided to be called Anti-Nephi-Lehies.
The Lamanites who had not been converted angry at those who converted to the teachings of the Nephites. They began to rebel against the king. They took up arms to destroy the king and the Anti-Nephi-Lehies.
None of the Anti-Nephi-Lehies being converted to the Lord, would take up arms to fight against the Lamanites that were coming to destroy them. They had repented of their wrong doings and they were afraid that if they were to kill again they wouldn’t be forgiven for committing the sins again. They chose to bury their weapons deep in the earth as a covenant to God that they would not kill again.
When the Lamanites came to destroy them, the Anti-Nephi-Lehies did not fight but prayed. Many Anti-Nephi-Lehies were killed by the Lamanites and none of them fought. The Lamanites saw that the people not fighting but praying, many of the Lamanites felt sorry for killing their brothers and put down their weapons and did not fight again. They repented and joined the Anti-Nephi-Lehies.
Because many Lamanites stopped fighting, those remaining were even more angry and blamed the conversion of their brothers on the Nephites. The Lamanite armies went to the Nephite lands, they fought many battles but couldn’t overpower the Nephites. Many more Lamanites saw that the Lord was helping the Nephites by giving them great power, repented and converted to the Anti-Nephi-Lehies.
Some Lamanites were still very angry with the Anti-Nephi-Lehies and they went back to their lands and once again the Anti-Nephi-Lehies didn’t fight and many were killed again.
Ammon and his brothers saw that so many people were being killed and they asked that the king gather his people and flee to the Nephites. The king was afraid that if they went to the Nephites, they would kill them or make them slaves because of their past sins against the Nephites. Ammon told the king that he was ask the Lord what they should. The Lord told Ammon to get the people out of the land. The people gathered their belongings and went to the Nephite land. Ammon and his brother went to Zarahemla to talk with the chief judge telling him all that had happened to the Anti-Nephi-Lehies. The Nephite people told the king that they were give the land of Jershon to the Anti-Neph-Lehies and the Nephites would put an army to protect them from the Lamanites so they wouldn’t break their covenants and take up weapons again. In return, they were asked to provide food and supplies for the army. The Anti-Nephi-Lehies made their new home in Jershon.
For this activity, there are two ways to use it. First the teacher version(PRINT SEEK AND FIND ON LEGAL PAPER-8.5X14)or the all together version, you’ll need the Seek and Find and then number on the chalkboard 1-10 with this next to each:
1. Keep the Sabbath day holy
2. Prayer
3. Serve others
4. Dress Modestly
5. Obey the Word of Wisdom
6. Be Honest
7. Listen to Parents
8. Watch & Listen to Good Things
9. Find Good Friends
10. Use Good Language
Go through together ways that by doing these things (you can easily add more than just these 10) will help them keep their covenants.
For the student version. These are both on regular printer paper, First the 17 weapons and then the 1-10 covenants page as described above.

Activity Days: Articles of Faith Games
This group has been working on learning the Articles of Faith and this activity celebrates all of their hard work.
