It sounds like lots of people are having the same trouble:
I hope other users will share their tips — I’m not serving in the Primary right now and don’t have any direct experience with this yet.

I think that Primary teachers are supposed to be supervising the children during the break. Are teachers just turning their children loose?
I’d love to hear what other units are doing during the break, too. Great question!

One thing I’ve found that helps ensure that handouts reach everyone is to write the names of everyone on their handout. It’s easy to know who didn’t get a copy that way.
I really appreciate the emails our RS secretary sends out, too.
We also keep an unofficial email list where women can ask for or give help ( who is a good doctor, here is my vegetable planting calendar, I have a tv I’m getting rid of, etc).

Since there isn’t a directive, you should approach the Stake leadership for an answer.
The lessons do not correlate with a monthly value, nor is there a directive on assigning them. I wouldn’t do it personally. I don’t have a problem with emphasizing a value each month, but why try to assign lessons to the values — it’s the square peg, round hole thing, IMO.
It won’t matter too long anyway New lessons will be out soon for YW. I can’t wait to see them updated!

March 9, 2011 at 1:10 pm in reply to: Are announcements in the RS Sunday meeting given before or after the opening prayer #243974
Good point. There are two types of announcements: announcements and business. In Sacrament meeting announcements (like ward activities, mutual, campouts, etc) are given before the prayer. Business (like callings, baby blessings, awards, etc) are done after the prayer.
For Relief Society I would put announcements regarding ongoing meetings and events, signup sheets, etc, before the prayer and compassionate service after the prayer. The goal is to have a transition between the announcement portion of a meeting and the spiritual part by separating them with a prayer and song.

I love geocaching, too, and I think it makes a great lesson with a zillion applications (hidden treasures of knowledge, obtaining your goals, effort reaps rewards, team building, listening to the spirit, just to name a few). Thanks for sharing, and please comment if you have ideas, too!

I like the idea of monopoly money — you could ask the youth ahead of time what jobs they are interested in and find out how much those things pay. Using your pretend money, “pay” the girls their salaries and then have them start calculating expenses like taxes, rent/mortgage in your area, tithing, food, family costs, insurance, car maintenance/payments, savings, debt payment, etc.
I don’t think I would try to scare the girls with the money exercise, just try to show them that that paycheck that *seems* big can shrink really fast. You may also want to demonstrate the part that education pays in wage earning potential.
You might also get some ideas from the game about homelessness called “Spent”:
