Where can I find the primary video collection on line?
-
What is the Primary video collection?
-
The Primary Video Collection is referenced in the Primary 3 book, Lesson 13. "Show to the children Baptism–A Promise to Follow Jesus (9 minutes) on Primary Video Collection (53179)…"
I have been looking for it as well, but have found no resources. I looked up the video on the church catalog, but didn't find the corresponding item.

I wonder if this is something old that no longer exists. We have frequent references in the Seminary manual to video collections that no longer exist….
-
Judy WoolseyI have also been looking for the Primary Video Collection. I went to the Distribution Center at the City Creek Deseret Book Store yesterday and they looked it up in their computer. It was previously available on videocassette. It is no longer available at all. I’ve looked at the video collection on lds.org and this particular collection and video segment are not available there. That explains why it isn’t listed in the catalog.

Rhonda RosaThank you for posting that information. I have just spent over an hour online looking for it. I now know I should stop looking. Thanks :-)
-
Ruth SchowI’ve been also searching online because my primary manual listed it as a resource for the lesson.

DebbyI am also looking for that. They have a copy of Baptism: A Promise to Follow Jesus in collections at the BYU Library. I think it might be available on the Family Home Evening DVD, and I would look for it at Deseret Industries. Lots of people,, me included, send there old church DVDs and videos there. That is where I am going to look. I am not positive if it is on here, but it is called
” Family Home Evening DVD Presentations Includes segments on gospel topics, cross-referenced to lessons in the Family Home Evening Resource Book.
The segments are created from general conferences, satellite broadcasts, and Church films and filmstrips.”If you found the DVD you could read to see if that particular filmstrip adaptation is included with it.

Katie GaugerHi! I hope this response can somehow get through to you and all the others who are looking for the Video “Baptism—A Promise to Follow Jesus” (9 minutes) on Primary Video Collection (53179). I guess you could call me an authority on this subject because I work on the LDS response team on the church website, and answer the feedback that comes in about all the videos and media library.
The lesson manual you are teaching out of was last updated in 1994, thus some of the resources listed in the lessons are no longer available or even being used. This is the case for this particular video and any others that are in the Primary Video Collection. The technology back then was videocassettes, and use to be supplied in every meetinghouse library as well as a cassette player to play it, but most church libraries will not have this anymore unless you are really, really lucky or your meetinghouse is pretty old. NONE of the newer meetinghouse libraries are supplied with this videocassette as it is no longer made or available for purchase.
So… what do you do without it for this lesson? My suggestion is to go to LDS.org and go to the lesson page and then look in the Right column of that page for “Additional Resources”. This will take you to another page that has lots of topical resources for every single lesson in your lesson manual. There are so many wonderful resources available to use, that you won’t even miss not having that video. Move forward with your lesson preps and enjoy the wonderful resources that can be found on LDS.org.

Katie GaugerI forgot to mention one more thing about this particular video. Someone who wrote into this site, did mention that you can find the video on you tube, and provided a link to it. This is true, however there is a bit of a problem…. no meetinghouses will play videos from you tube, as there is a big internet filter in all meetinghouses, that probably won’t allow it. With this said, I have heard that there is a youtube downloader program, (I don’t know what it is called, you will have to google it) that lets you download youtube videos to your computer. If you did this, it seems possible that if the video is on your computer, you ought to be able to play it. I am not suggesting you do it, because there are just so many other wonderful materials that you can use that are on LDS.org like images, other videos, Darling stories from the Friend Magazine, and so much more. Anyway, I hope that my posts have clarified this question that comes up every time a lesson suggests a videocassette from this video collection. I feel pretty confident that one day, when the lesson manuals get updated, these outdated resources will be removed from the lessons. Keep up the great work teaching the children of the Primary!
