Was suppose to do a presentation for music appreciation this coming Sunday (five days away) but been on the net for nearly two hours and can’t seem to find any info. I’m wanting to do a presentation on Emily H. Woodmansee who wrote the lyrics of hymn 293 “As Sisters In Zion” I’m trying to find information about her, information about why, when and where she wrote the lyrics and posibly a picture of her to show. Can anyone help?
Thanks! -
Arg!!! I don’t know how I missed this post! I have sitting on my desk at this very second, a copy of the text from a book about LDS hymns that has 6 additional verses to As Sisters In Zion that were omitted from the hymn book! Our Chorister handed it out a few weeks ago, and we sang some of the extra verses for the 5 minute music period. It’s been in my pile of “stuff to put on the website” and I haven’t gotten to it yet. I’ll set it out and get it in the Relief Society section this afternoon (I hope!).

btw, the title of the book the text came from is Our Latter-day Hymns: Thier Stories and Messages by Karen Lynn Davidson. This book has bonus information and history on all the hymns in the hymnal. Our unit library has a copy of the book, so you might check there. You can buy a copy of the book here for $22.95.
