Heavenly Father presented a plan for us to become like Him
(I used the plan of salvation and family clipart to make the following poster of the plan of salvation. Then my child moved a little fellow about on the poster to demonstrate how we move through the plan of happiness during our lives. -Jenny.)
Before you and I were born, we lived in heaven with our Heavenly Father and brother, Jesus Christ. We learned as much as we could. Then Heavenly Father called all His children together in a council, or special meeting, to tell us that He had a plan for us to become like Him.
In order for us to learn to be like Heavenly Father, we had to leave Him for a short time. We would be born on a special Earth created for us, receive a body, and have freedom to choose good or evil. We would forget about our heavenly home during our time on Earth and each of us would make mistakes. But a Savior would come to Earth to suffer for our sins so that even though we make mistakes, we can be forgiven. The Savior would also over come death, so that we could be resurrected.
Here is a poster that shows Heavenly Father’s plan, sometimes called the Plan of Salvation or the Plan of Happiness.
[man starts at pre-Earth life] We lived with Heavenly Father and Jesus before we were born. While in the pre-Earth life, Heavenly Father let us choose if we wanted to come to Earth and become like Him. We know that we all chose to become like Heavenly Father, because we are here on the Earth.
[move the man to earth life] When we were born, we passed through a veil of forgetfulness and forgot about living with Heavenly Father. We aren’t alone on Earth, though. Heavenly Father created families to help us learn about Him and to choose the right. He also sent Jesus Christ to Earth to atone for our sins so that we can repent. Jesus was resurrected so that we can live again after we die.
[move man and family to Celestial Kingdom] After we die, we will be judged and held accountable for our actions on Earth. If we are baptized, perform ordinances in the temple, follow God’s commandments, and repent when we sin, we can live in happiness with Heavenly Father and Jesus again in the Celestial Kingdom forever.
I am grateful that Heavenly Father loved me so much that He made a plan for me to be happy forever. I am grateful that Jesus Christ is my Savior from sin and death. I want to be like him. I will do my best to live righteously, because I want to live with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ again.
