When I was a baby, you’d rock me to sleep
And love me and hold me just right
You’d sing to me softly and feed me good food
And protect me with all of your might.

You were the very first person I love.
I needed you all the day long.
You taught me to talk, and to talk, and to laugh
And the difference between right and wrong.

You helped me get ready for school that first day
And bought me a bunch of nice clothes.
You helped me with homework and projects I had
Through all of the highs and the lows

You read me fun stories, like Green Eggs and Ham
And told me how fast I had grown.
You had some tense moments as I learned how to drive
Yet you gave me a key of my own.

You cheered on my efforts, believed in my dreams
And gave me all kinds of advice.
You taught me the gospel and how I should live
And how I’d never regret being nice.

The years came and went, and I made some mistakes
As I learned how to find my own place.
Whatever I did, you always were there
With an encouraging smile on your face.

It really was hard when I left you that day
To start a life of my own, but you’re always my mother, and we’ll always be close
No matter how far I may roam.

I love you so much, dear mother of mine,
And I thank you for all of the years
You gave me my life and you gave me your heart
And the courage to face all my fears.
