Bring a piece of rope to class. Give a piece of rope to a young woman. Ask her to try to break it using any method except cutting. Then illustrate to the class how the rope can be broken by breaking one strand at a time. (I personally think yarn would be the easiest item to use for this lesson. You can use this object lesson to teach about unity…

Prepare a snapping turtle trap: Pound nails into a two-foot-long piece of board at three- or four-inch intervals. Bend the head of each nail at a 90-degree angle (see the illustration). If it is not feasible to prepare this trap, draw a picture of it on the chalkboard, [like this:] (Image is copyright 2010, Intellectual Reserve. Used by permission.) Display the snapping turtle trap (or refer to the drawing on…

The following object lesson is from YouTube. This evangelist preacher does a fantastic job demonstrating how temptation is all around us, and how Satan will change his attacks to wear us down. You could use it to teach a variety of gospel topics:

Set the mouse trap and set inside the box on one side. Place the candy or other object on the other side of the box. Beforehand explain to someone what you will be doing because they need to be willing to help! They will stand behind the box and place their hand through the curtain. They cannot see what is inside the box (you have told them beforehand, but they…

Pretend like the glass of water is the world. Have the class give examples of sin in the world (smoking, swearing, not telling the truth, etc.) As they are giving examples, shake pepper into the glass of water. Talk about the advice given by prophets to be in the world but not of the world. Take your index finger and put it in the water. Let the class see that…

Before class starts build a fortress out of lego’s and one out of wooden blocks. While talking about making choices now about what you will do when you’re tempted you can use the fortress of wood blocks as someone who didn’t decide before hand what to do when a temptation came and the lego fortress as someone who decided what to do before they were tempted. Have a child toss…

Show the class the caramel covered onion. Really talk up the “apple”. Tell them how delicious it is (they probably won’t need much convincing.) Invite a volunteer to eat it and describe to the others in the class how good it is. At this point, depending on the volunteer’s nature and how far you want to take the lesson, you can either ask the volunteer to take a big bite…

Set trap on table. Have a girl set it off with a pencil. Offer her the stubby one and the long one. The pencil shatters. Next, set trap on floor. Ask for volunteer to walk by it. When YW volunteers, have her take off her shoes and put on a blindfold. (Smart ones refuse; adventurous ones get talked out of it by everyone.)

We must examine closely what our decisions are based on to be sure that Satan isn’t deceiving us by disguising something evil. Having the Holy Ghost with us as all times will help us not to be fooled by his traps. Prepare the apple and the onion like a caramel apple on the sticks. Ask the students to pick which caramel apple they would like to eat. Based on appearances,…

Place the two labelled magnets approx 30 cms apart on a table top. Place the paper clips (class members) round about the middle point between the magnets.(Allow some paper clips to get caught by the magnet force of Satan) Watch and see how those paper clips that are placed closer to Satan quickly become fixed to the Satan magnet. Explain that satan often disguises temptation in a pretty package-but only when you’ve “sunk your teeth into it” does the true deception show. The gospel and it’s “plain and simple” truths is always good and will never deceive.
