The handbook doesn’t say to not have talks, scripture etc. It is part of sharing time. The opening exercises was done away with but we still do all those things as part of Sharingtime.

It can be hard. You have to make sure your heart is in the right place first – in the, “I feel like this is right” not the “I think I am right” place. Do that with prayer and patience both with the other ladies you work with as well as the roudy issues in primary. Then, do what you are led to do as answer to those prayers. I can think of lots of possible resolutions. 1. Go with the flow and try your best to bring spirituality in every chance you get – perhaps the others will feel it and pay attention. 2. Speak privately with the President – so she does not feel put on the spot in front of the other members of the presidency – and tell her your concerns and offer specific ways to help bring things in-line with current handbook guidance. 3. Talk to either the bishopric member over primary or the stake primary leader that you work with the most and seek out their cousel and assistance. In any case, keep the prayers going for the best possible resolution of things.
Good luck!

I would talk to your Bishop or the counselor in the Bishopric that is over Primary. Tell them your concerns. They could then intervene without ever mentioning your part in coming to them. They could call the Primary Presidency to a meeting to go over how things are going and to go over the Handbook and how those changes can be made. I am sure the Bishopric will want to have the Primary following the handbook. The sisters in your primary presidency need to remember one thing, this is NOT their primary, it is the Lord’s. Hope this helps. Unfortunately, sometimes if you’ve tried going straight to the source and that doesn’t work, you need to go above them to get things done right.

Be patient, you are not alone. Follow your leaders but look for kind opportunities to read from the new manual.

I have a couple of 2012 YW calendars available on my blog, www. hangaribbononthemoon.com. If you have word-processing or graphic-editing software, you can edit them on your computer.
The first is one featuring the Arise and Shine Forth theme:
It is 11×8.5 and features a unique chandelier/damask background and scripture each month. Find Jan, Feb, Mar and Apr here: http://bit.ly/xVLDZQ
May-Dec here: http://bit.ly/zoT0dkThe second one is a Personal Progress calendar
It is 6×6-inches and features a separate calendar page and a goal page for each month. This project is in a .pdf file, which you need Adobe Reader to use (you can get it for free from adobe.com). Find it here: http://bit.ly/wCltFBI also have a separate download with the calendar pages and goal pages in .jpeg format, which you could resize, and the goal pages in an interactive .pdf. Get them here: http://bit.ly/zG4XxD

I was able to do it through itunes. Set up a playlist then burn it to a blank cd. You can download the mp3 files from the church website then move that file to itunes. I have done it through windows media in the past but it wouldn’t work for me this time
Good luck, we’ve already had our primary kids and their parents say happy they were to have the songs, the kids are learning the songs so much faster. -
This “Emma’s Garden” sounds fabulous! Where can I find it?

What’s with the Primary that does not adhere to the changes in Handbook 2? I’m a counselor in primary and our primary still goes by the old, discarded handbook in doing opening, closing exercises & sharing time format. In our Primary, one counselor conducts opening exercise after which the sr primary is dismissed to class; another counselor does sharing time for the jr primary, and the President would do sharing time for the sr kids. It’s weird. I’d read to the president and the other counselor the current handbook’s instructions and explained how we need to stop having opening/closing exercises and follow the Sharing Time outline only, but to no avail; they look blank like they don’t get it and I feel I’m losing my mind at how they don’t get something so simple. We don’t have kids doing talks, scripture, article of faith and such assignments in sharing time so there’s No organization, no reverence in primary. And we always go overtime when they are in charge. I don’t know if it’s because they don’t understand the Handbook or they cannot change from the old way but it’s hard to feel the spirit. I try to follow the Handbook in doing sharing time but it clashes with how the other two do things as we’re not on the same page. I’m up against two who are stuck in their ways. How else can I make them “see” we need to follow the Handbook or should I just give up and follow them for the sake of unity even though it’s not the Lord’s way? Frustrated

Let visiitng teachers “care” for their absent sisters. I teach a refugee class during both Sunday School and Relief Society time slots, so I never attend adult classes. I am blessed to have this calling. And my visiting teacher fills in the communcation gap, by giving me flyers, announcements, etc. She also goes with me to special activities so I feel I belong. We sometimes forget to use the very purpose for which the Lord instituted the visiting teaching program.

Nice thought, but I see a problem if there are children who have behavioral issues, special needs or do not handle a change of teacher well, also, as much as there are great YW out there, not all are experienced enough to handle for example 8 Sunbeams, 12 CTR 4’s or 15 Valiant 10’s as we have in our primary.
Our RS keep us informed about upcoming events, birthdays, etc. through an e-mail newsletter. -
I would really like to get a copy of this. I would be happy to pay for it.

You think “ignorant” means rude.
You know the meaning of the phrase “Jack Mormon”.
You home teach a Jack Mormon.
You have never set your alarm clock for 4:45am, because your Seminary class is just a parking lot away.
Your youngest child is the same age as your first grandchild.
You own a double stroller but don’t have twins.
You bought your copy of the Work and the Glory at your local Wal-mart.
You did a personal progress value project on Stephanie Meyers.
You considered throwing out your Twilight books when you found out Deseret Book took them off their shelves.
You think the 24th of July is a national holiday.
Someone says “funeral” and you think “potatoes”.
You have ever walked to Church.
