First Day of Seminary — Check!

Well, after failing to get any sleep last night, I’m finished with the very first day of my new humongus class of Seminary students.  I lost only one senior and gained 7 Freshmen plus a transfer student and an investigator for a total of 23 kids. It was crazy. We started out with an introduction to our theme scripture for the year: Helaman 5:12 and the same activity I did…

So. Tired.

I nearly cried from exhaustion yesterday.  It has been a long summer.  I can’t wait for it to be over. School started for the kids on Tuesday, but Seminary doesn’t start until the first Monday.  It’s a good thing, too, because what with volleyball tryouts and my ill relative and interviewing/coordinating/training caregivers and managing two houses and subbing at church and and EFY and camp and volleyball camp and band…

Information on Seminary Course Options (released time, home study, daily or early morning, and online)

Our unit has a number of challenges that make it very difficult to organize Seminary. Our boundaries have resulted in a unit that covers parts of the boundaries of three high schools.  Additionally, one family of three Seminary-aged children attends a fourth high school.  Two students are enrolled in college courses.  Four or five more are home schooled.  The building to which we are assigned is far outside our ward…

Below are three reasons students might hate Seminary: Seminary has no point.  Students show up to a class where a teacher makes them memorize obscure scripture passages, sing silly songs made up from the books of the Bible, reads crazy long charts aloud, asks…

Book Review: Teaching the Book of Mormon Part One

I emailed John Bushman, from NW Seminary Share to see if I could do a book review of the book he recently co-authored titled Teaching the Book of Mormon, Part 1 (1 Nephi – Alma 16) by Bushman, Romney, Manis, and Wakefield.  The publisher, Cedar Fort, was kind enough to send me out a copy to review.  Though the dirty brown cover was a little disappointing, I was impressed when…
