Hypocrisy – What’s on the Inside Matters

Object Lesson

I used this object lesson to teach about hypocrisy to my Seminary class. First, I printed chewing gum inserts on card stock.  Each insert was 140mm x 18mm and fit inside a Juicy Fruit wrapper. On each was written the following references and words: “Thou Whited Wall” Acts 23:3 and  “Full of Dead Men’s Bones”  Matthew 23:27. After cutting them out, I put the “fake” gum in the center section…

Craft Sticks – Notches

Handed out one of these [craft sticks] to each one [student. After the lesson], … they handed their stick back to me. I talked about how each of us may be weak (like the notches in the stick can weaken the stick) but together, the sticks can build a wonderful strong structure. All of us sharing our testimonies can strengthen each other…. If you have never tried this sort of lesson,…

After we discussed what happened in Acts 8-9, they then quietly picked out a verse or verses that meant something to them. Then they came up to the front of the class, read the verse, explained it, told why they chose it, and how to apply it to our lives. Then they handed their stick back to me….

Missionary Preparation Worksheet

I will use this worksheet with our study of Acts 21 and Acts 22 tomorrow.  It is a worksheet based loosely on the lesson in the NT Seminary manual.   I altered it to demonstrate that students in our class are also preparing for missions right now in ways they may not have considered.  I am using it as independant work while I give out report cards and meet with…

Chalk Talk

This idea came from a Pinterest post by Erin Guinup.  She didn’t post a link to a website, but posted a picture of her chalkboard from doing this activity that you can see at right. You can see her pin on my Seminary Pinterest page. Basically, you start with a topic.  Each student is given a piece of chalk to write on the board their responses to the writing prompt. …

Acts 27-28, Making Dating Smooth Sailing: From First Date to Eternal Mate!

Downloaded from: http://brosimonsays.wordpress.com/2013/02/16/acts-27-28-making-dating-smooth-sailing-from-first-date-to-eternal-mate/ —“There is definitely a time …for associations [FriendSHIP], for the date [RelationSHIP], and even for the steady date [CourtSHIP] that will culminate in the romance which will take young people to the holy temple for eternal marriage [Paradise]. But it is the timing that is so vital. It is wrong to do even the right things at the wrong time in the wrong place under the wrong…

Acts 27-28, Oh, The Places You’ll Go! Stick to the Ship of Zion

Downloaded from: http://brosimonsays.wordpress.com/2013/02/15/acts-27-28-stick-to-the-ship-of-zion/ Stick to the ship of Zion. If boats come to the side, showing beautiful colors and making wonderful promises, do not get off the ship to go to the shore on any other boat; but keep on the ship. If you are badly used by any of those that are on the ship, who have not got the proper spirit, remember the ship itself is alright. We should…

Acts 13-20

Monday of this week was a free day.  I planned to celebrate birthdays with a party and watch movies, but my class president didn’t organize the food, so we ended up just watching Bible Video movies.  Not great.   I don’t like wasting time like that. Acts 13-14 – Paul’s First Mission My lesson objective this day was to talk about why some people accept the gospel while others do not,…
