Primary 4, Lesson 2 Journal

Lehi was a prophet with great courage, commitment and devotion the the Lord and to his people. Because of what he had heard and saw in a vision, he knew that he must testify to the people of their wickedness. The people were angry and tried to kill him. The Lord protected and blessed Lehi and commanded him to leave Jerusalem so that the Lord could continue to use Lehi as His voice to the people.
Following the Lord’s command, Lehi gathered his family, leaving behind his possessions and traveled into the wilderness to the Red Sea. Here he and his family stopped after traveling for 3 days. Lehi then build an altar and thank Heavenly Father. Lehi had 4 sons, Nephi, Laman, Lemuel and Sam. Laman and Lemuel were both upset that Lehi had made them leave their home and all their belongings in Jerusalem. They didn’t believe that Jerusalem would be destroyed as Lehi had prophesied. Nephi wanted to know if what Lehi said was true and so he prayed and was told that Lehi was right, Nephi told Sam and he believed Nephi. Heavenly Father blessed Nephi because of his faith. Nephi was told that as long as he kept the commandments, he would blessed and would be a ruler over his brothers.

The Calling of a Prophet (Religious Studies Center-BYU) this one is particularly interesting as it breaks down the pieces of Lehi’s calling as a prophet and his vision of the destruction of Jerusalem.

Primary 7, Lesson 40

LDS.ORG Primary 7, Lesson 40: Peter and Cornelius

I LOVE Elder Hunter’s quote (#3 in enrichment activities) and couldn’t help but think of these paper dolls from the Friend! And how you can use them to help the kids to understand that all children around the world are the same, Heavenly Father loves them and wants them to learn about the Gospel, He hears their prayers.

There’s one from each month and you can download them here:

 (included in the download)
Cornelius was a Roman centurion. He was a devout, God-fearing man. An  angel appeared to him and told him to go get the apostle Peter. Peter had a vision that had the meaning that it was time that the gospel be taught the gospel without having first to convert to Judaism. At this time, the gospel was only being taught to the Jews, this was the first time that the gospel will be taught to the Gentiles.
(Peter was the head of the Church at this time, he held all the keys for the Church)
During this time, Cornelius had fasted and prayed for 4 days to know God’s will. The angel promised him that Peter held the answers.
Heavenly Father is teaching us that He “is no respecter of persons” (Acts 10:34) Every person can have the opportunity to hear the gospel. Peter taught and testified of Christ’s life and mission. The Holy Ghost testified to
Cornelius that what Peter was teaching was true. Cornelius was baptized. This became a huge step in the Church beginning to teach ALL people.

Primary 7, Lesson 32: The Crucifixion and Burial of Jesus Christ

He willingly gave his life so every person who has ever lived, or will ever live, will live again because of his great love for us.
Physical death is part of Heavenly Father’s plan and that Heavenly Father, in His great mercy, sent His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to overcome death. Through Christ’s death and resurrection, we have all been rescued from physical death. We will die, but we will be resurrected.

Before Christ was put on the cross, the soldiers whipped Jesus. They put a purple robe on Him and a crown of thorns and called him the King of the Jews. But they did this all to mock and make fun of Jesus. The soldiers took Jesus to a hill and a man named Simon of Cyrene carried His cross. They then nailed His hands and feet to the cross and lifted it up. Jesus then prayed and asked Heavenly Father to forgive the soldiers because they didn’t know that He was the Savior. Jesus asked the Apostle John to take care of His mother, Mary. Christ suffered on the cross for many hours and darkness came over the land. And after much suffering Jesus’ spirit left His body and He died. After He died, the Roman soldiers threw a spear at His side, they were scared because it was dark and an earthquake came and broke big rocks, a veil in the temple also tore in two, they then said, “Truly, this is the Son of God.”

One of Jesus’ disciples named Joseph begged Pilate for Jesus’ body and he wrapped Jesus’ body in a white cloth and placed him inside of his tomb. Joseph then rolled a big rock in front of the tomb and left.
