Story behind ldsprimaryposters.com:
When I was first given the calling to be the primary singing leader, I was excited. Everyone kept telling me, “That’s the best calling in the church!” I have 2 young boys, both primary age. The first week, was…terrible. My youngest wouldn’t let go of my leg, I wasn’t familiar with all of the songs, my oldest wanted to be my helper. Needless to say, I cried. I wanted to be released. I came home and started looking for resources to help me, and I discovered, there wasn’t a lot out there!

My first problem was visuals: The previous singing leader had created her own (now standard) “flip charts”. Seemed like a great idea to me! But once I had a child hanging on my leg, and I was the one up there leading, I found I couldn’t flip those pages fast enough! They were getting jumbled, I couldn’t lead the music with my hand because…it was time to turn to the next page!

After a few weeks I went rummaging in the primary closet. I discovered a large stack of old posters. The kind MY mother used in primary. I was elated. I brought them home, thinking I could give them a face lift. “Joseph Smith’s First Prayer” was one of the poster songs I’d brought home. I was looking at it, and my 5 year old walked past and said, “Why are we cutting Jesus?” There was a picture of an eyeball + a saw (tool) + Jesus Christ. I knew t

here had to be a better way. Having a child with a very imaginative mind, and looking at suggestions from church leaders, I decided it best not to use any “eyeballs” = “I”, or “picture of a log” = “would”. The kids should be learning the true meaning behind the words. And, while I was at it, use church pictures. I have no problem with clipart for simple things (a tree, flowers, etc), but to me, a picture of Jesus, should be a church approved picture of Jesus. One you’d find in a gospel art kit, or the Ensign.

I asked ward members to donate old church magazines. I printed key words to the songs in vinyl lettering and I started creating posters that the kids and I love. I can easily LEAD them in singing time, they love the pictures, their attention doesn’t wander. The calling has changed for me. It truly has become “one of the best callings in the church”. That’s why I have started offering my services to others, I want you to be able to enjoy the calling as you should, by using the right tools. These posters will last a long time – ask your ward to purchase them for you…
