My sister is looking after the education area of RS and would like to know if anyone has any info or is implementing the literacy program in their wards/stakes!

Hi. We’ve done a couple of Literacy projects in our ward RS. The first year (as the Education Counselor) we instituted a Scripture Tag program:
1. On Sunday as part of the opening exercises, a scripture was read. The assignment was for each of the sisters to go home that week, reread the scripture and then contact me (via phone or email) with a new scripture that they felt corresponded with the Sunday scripture. The first person to contact me with a scripture got a “point” (there was a rewards system) and then that was the scripture to be read the following Sunday. It ran really well for at least 6 month before the sisters lost interest….so the next year:
2. Currently we are reading the Scripture Mastery scriptures each Sunday. We called a specialist to head this up and she comes each week with an additional thought or reference from a Conference Talk that explains the scripture. Each sister was given a seminary bookmark that lists all of the scripture mastery verses and a schedule (on the back side of the lesson schedule) so that they would know what scripture was to be read that week. It has gone over REALLY well. We always have a bit of discussion about the scripture and it has provided the sisters to read these verses that hold alot of value and doctrine.
Good luck! -
