I’ve been curious what our course of study will be in 2010 for Relief Society and Priesthood. Does anyone know? Or can you hazard a guess. I figured that since the Primary theme has been announced, that perhaps our course of study will have been announced. Please, let me know. I’m dying of curiosity.

I haven’t heard yet, but maybe someone else is in the know. Hopefully we’ll get Joseph Fielding Smith. The 2010 LDS Mutual theme has also not been released, and it came out July 1 last year.

The study course for RS and Pristhood for 2010-2011 will be Gosper Principles, an updated edition. Which is already available at the Distributions Services Stores.

Thank you very much. I’ve ordered 3 copies of the new Gospel Principles book so that my counselor and teacher will each have one to look at before the branch order comes in.

The new RS manual lessons are very brief… Is there a location in this website we can get RS lesson helps like they have for other aux? I’m teaching the 2nd Sunday, and there’s not a lot of material in the manual…Thanks

No, there isn’t a lesson helps page for the Gospel Principals manual (or any other of the adult lesson manuals for that matter). Since the lessons don’t get reused and the topics are so broad, helps for those pages won’t be added here.
I have never been able to cover all the content in any of the new manuals in any RS lesson, so I think that you’ll find you have plenty of material. The problem with the manuals, imo, is they don’t give you enough ideas on how to help the lesson be more than ‘read-a-quote-then-discuss’. That gets a little old after a while.
Okay — it gets a LOT old.
The best place to look on this site for RS lesson helps is the object lessons:

or Second and Third Sunday Teacher packet:
http://www.mormonshare.com/relief-society/2and3SundayPacketText.phpThe other resource you should look at is Teaching, No Greater Call. One of the Appendices has several great ideas on how to spice up lessons.
Gospel Principals should be much, much easier to teach from than the Teachings of the Presidents of the Church series. I’m delighted to see us getting to discuss doctrine in RS.

My suggested approach to teaching RS/PH course of study in 2010:
This week I met with our RS President to explore the course of study for next year. We both found that many of the lessons (with outlines) contained in the Latter-day Woman A&B manuals correlate with the new Gospel Principles and True to the Faith topics in these manuals. As an example, this past Sunday I taught a lesson on the “gift of the spirit” to correlated with ‘gift giving’ at Christmas. — After a little research, I found the topic and materials won’t be used until later in 2010.–How many of us remember all of the lessons from year to year? ;o)* Gospel Principles, Chapter 22, The Gifts of the Spirit
* True to the Faith, Pg. 165, Spiritual Gifts
* Latter-day Woman-B, Chapter 3, Gifts of the Spirit
* http://www.lds.org: The Visiting Teacher, including the questions: Seeking the Best Gifts, Ensign, Jan. 1997I also like to provide a one page take-home hand out for our sisters and shut-ins. I created a one page, two-sided hand out using materials from the lesson available online that I can easily cut-and-paste from http://www.lds.org into an MS Word document.
* Excerpts from The Visiting Teacher, including the questions: Seeking the Best Gifts, Ensign, Jan. 1997
* True to the Faith, Spiritual Gifts, Pg. 165There you go! By the way, I found teaching the Gifts of the Spirit lesson to be very enlightening and a reminder of the spiritual gifts the Lord gives me to strengthen my calling and present lessons in accordance with Church standard and requirements. ♥

P.S. There is a really nifty little PDF handout in the LDS Clip Art section here on Mormon Share for Gifts of the Spirit! I forgot to mention it. My apologies to the author. ♥
Good Luck with your 2010 lessons, everybody!
