I have been unable to find any kind of suggested list for a 72 hour kit that would work for a diabetic, Celiac child.  I could really use some helpnfrom someone who knows more about it than I do!  She was diagnosed this February, so I am relatively new at the whole thing.

    Thanks,

    Sara Weekes

I wouldn't say I know more about it than you because only you know your childs particular needs. My daughter has had diabetes for 12 years and celiac for 4. If I were to say the best topics to go over for 72 hr kit would be the medication and her food. Clearly you can't put insulin in the kit on a shelf for a year, as it sould go bad, so I suggest a checklist tag hanging on the outside of the kit (or backpack) that says to go get the insulin from the fridge. All other supplies can go inside, needles, alcohol wipes, pump supplies, medical I.D. etc. As far as the food goes, we need shelf stable candy for recues in case of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) like smarties, or skittles, no chocolate as it has fats that don't rescue very fast.  Add other snacks for stability with protein like nuts, seeds, canned tuna oatmeal packets to just add water etc. in case she gets high out of stress, and low glycemic foods are healthier anyways. Fritos and canned bean dip is a stress releiver for us. Of course the change of clothing, water and other listed common kits items go in. Good luck and have prayer before assembling, you never know what the spirit might prompt you to put in that may only make sense when you come to need it.

Make it big and obvious. All other supplies can go inside, needles, alcohol wipes, pump supplies, glucogon kit, medical I.D., doctor info, etc. As far as the food goes, we need shelf stable candy and juice boxes for recues in case of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) like smarties, or skittles, no chocolate as it has fats and won't rescue very fast.  Add other snacks for stability with protein like nuts, seeds, canned tuna with gluten free crackers, GF oatmeal packets to just add water etc. in case she gets high out of stress, low glycemic foods are healthier anyways. Fritos and canned bean dip is a stress releiver for us cuz it's salty. More food for her than anyone else because she may not be able to eat what is at a public shelter. Of course the change of clothing, water and other listed common kits items go in. Good luck and have prayer before assembling, you never know what the spirit might prompt you to put in that may only make sense when you come to need it.
