I’m compiling a list of Provident Living tips for leaders. These might be included in an Relief Society newsletter or used as part of a lesson for a RS meeting.
Cooking Providently
- Don’t stack containers before freezing food. Put them in the freezer in one layer.
- To speed thawing, made an indentation in the middle of the package of ground meat before you freeze it. (like a donut)
- If you thaw food in the refrigerator, you can refreeze it safely. If you that food in cold water or in the microwave, you should cook it before you refreeze it.
- Time Saver – Instead of thawing food before cooking, add 50 percent additional time to the original cooking time.
Offline Shopping
- http://www.couponmom.com/ – One-stop coupon resource. This links to SmartSource, RedPlum, Upromise and other major grocery coupon sites.
Online Shopping
- http://www.couponmom.com/ – One-stop coupon resource. This links to SmartSource, RedPlum, Upromise and other major grocery coupon sites.
- http://google.com/ – type in the name of the store you’re shopping at online with the word “coupon” after it. You’ll find lots of coupons for thousands of online stores.
- http://kayak.com/ – the best of the online travel comparison engines. Does not search Southwest Airlines, however. Excels at airfare.
- http://www.vacationstogo.com/emailtick.cfm – best place I’ve found for last-minute (90-days or less) bargain cruises. Click on the “You Save” column for the best deals.
Eating Out
- http://restaurant.com/ – discount gift certificates for restaurants in many cities. I use these when we go on vacation to control food costs.
These provident living tips can be reproduced in newsletters and other sources.
