Well, after failing to get any sleep last night, I’m finished with the very first day of my new humongus class of Seminary students. I lost only one senior and gained 7 Freshmen plus a transfer student and an investigator for a total of 23 kids. It was crazy. We started out with an introduction to our theme scripture for the year: Helaman 5:12 and the same activity I did…

Downloaded from: http://seminarymoments.blogspot.com/2013/09/my-classroom.html I have a small room for my seminary classroom. It was manageable when we had shorter tables. BUT someone removed the short tables and I had to get the long ones that are stored under the stage. It took my son and me THREE hours of moving things around to come up with this:I am hopeful this configuration will give us the space we need to maneuver…

Downloaded from: http://seminarymoments.blogspot.com/2013/09/welcome-back.html Seminary starts on Sept. 9! We will be studying the Book of Mormon this year.Since this is my 5th year teaching, I thought I wouldn’t have to spend as much time preparing for lessons. I could just recycle and reteach my old lessons. THEN I learned we have a whole new curriculum! I will try to recycle a lot of my activities (not whole lessons) from years past,…

I nearly cried from exhaustion yesterday. It has been a long summer. I can’t wait for it to be over. School started for the kids on Tuesday, but Seminary doesn’t start until the first Monday. It’s a good thing, too, because what with volleyball tryouts and my ill relative and interviewing/coordinating/training caregivers and managing two houses and subbing at church and and EFY and camp and volleyball camp and band…

Downloaded from: http://seminaryatsixam.blogspot.com/2013/09/seminary-mornings.html You know you are an early morning Seminary teacher when you enter the building with the moon still out and when you exit, you are greeted by amazing skies like in the photos below. Each morning after Seminary, as I am filled with the spirit and my mind is on the tender mercies of God, nature seems more beautiful. I try not to rush too much to the…

I had already taught the Title Page on Day 2, The Objective lesson. I had hoped to get through the testimonies of the witnesses today as well, but it did not happen. So I will have to […]

Downloaded from: http://brosimonsays.wordpress.com/2013/09/04/day-5-the-plan-of-salvation/ We had a great experience today as we learned about the G.P.S.–God’s Plan of Salvation! As I will try to do throughout the year, I relied heavily on the BOOK OF MORMON SEMINARY TEACHER MANUAL. This particular lesson is drawn from LESSON 3: THE PLAN OF SALVATION. This lesson was very simple, and yet very profound for many […]

Downloaded from: http://seminaryatsixam.blogspot.com/2013/09/what-did-golden-plates-look-like.html This article from the July 2007 New Era is a wonderful resource as an introduction to the Book of Mormon study.“What Did The Golden Plates Look Like?”Several of my students are very creative and artistic. Based on the descriptions given in the New Era article, I gave my students the challenge to draw, paint, sculpt, build, etc. a replica of the golden plates. Some of them are running with this…

Downloaded from: http://seminaryatsixam.blogspot.com/2013/09/moroni-104-5-activity.html Post-it notes are this teacher’s best friend. Every word, comma, semi-colon, period, and number is on a separate post-it note. I bought the 3×5 size at the dollar store over the summer so that large words would not be crowded on a square post-it. For smaller words and punctuation, I cut them in half.I place the Post-it notes with all over the wall in random order and they…
