Personal Progress for General Conference

March 24, 2015

I think it’s pretty evident that Personal Progress and General Conference go together better than Peanut Butter & Chocolate! Personal Progress is designed to help us draw closer to Christ and become like Him, and General Conference offers us specific revelation to help us do that!

 

Of course we know that General Conference serves as a great value project, but I went through the value experiences and found quite a few that include studying the teaching found in General Conference.

Faith #1

The first principle of the gospel is faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Learn about faith from the scriptures and living prophets. Read Hebrews 11; Alma 32:17–43; Ether 12:6–22; and Joseph Smith—History 1:11–20. Read two general conference talks on faith. Exercise your own faith by establishing a habit of prayer in your life. Begin by regularly saying your morning and evening prayers. After three weeks of following this pattern, discuss with a parent or leader what you have learned about faith and how daily personal prayer has strengthened your faith. In your journal express your feelings about faith and prayer.

 

Divine Nature #2

As a young woman you are blessed with divine feminine qualities. Increase your understanding of and appreciation for womanhood. Read Proverbs 31:10–31 and two talks on womanhood from a conference issue of the Church magazines. Review what “The Family: A Proclamation to the World” says about being a wife and a mother. Then ask your mother or another mother you admire what she thinks are important attributes for being a mother. List the attributes in your journal. Then choose one of those attributes and strive to develop it. After two weeks report your success to a parent or leader.

 

Individual Worth #2

Learn about the importance of patriarchal blessings by studying about them in True to the Faith and recent conference talks. Find out why they are given and who can give them. Discuss with a parent or Church leader how to prepare to receive a patriarchal blessing and how it can teach you of your worth and identity and be a guide throughout your life. If you have not received your blessing, prepare to receive it.

 

Knowledge #4

Select a gospel principle you would like to understand better (for example, faith, repentance, charity, eternal families, or baptismal covenants). Read scriptures and the words of latter-day prophets that relate to the principle. Prepare a five-minute talk on the subject and give the talk in a sacrament meeting, in a Young Women meeting, to your family, or to your class. Record in your journal how you can apply this gospel principle in your life.

 

ANY Choice and Accountability Experience

In my opinion, it seems like the majority of conference talks touch on the topics covered in these experiences, so it should be easy to find one to correlate with the experience of your choice!

 

Good Works #4

Teach a lesson about service in family home evening or in another setting. Use pictures, music, examples [from General Conference], or demonstrations in your lesson. You may want to use the manual Teaching, No Greater Call as a resource.

 

Integrity #7

List the issues, trends, and problems that weaken the family. Read the First Presidency message, “The Family: A Proclamation to the World”, and the section on family in For the Strength of Youth. Then research in the Church magazines the counsel of those whom we sustain as prophets, seers, and revelators. Write in your journal your plan to strengthen your present family and the values and traditions you want to establish with your future family.

 

ANY Virtue Experience

As with Choice and Accountability, so many talks touch on the topics discussed in the value of Virtue, so there should be no problem finding one that fits!

{Sharing Time} Prophets Testify of Jesus Christ

Sharing Time Ideas From the 2015 Outline

ENCOURAGE UNDERSTANDING: Before sharing time, place a picture of Jesus Christ on the board and cover the picture with pictures of the following prophets: Isaiah, John the Baptist, Nephi, and Joseph Smith. Assign one of the following scriptures to each class: Isaiah 9:6; Mark 1:6–8; 2 Nephi 25:26; Doctrine and Covenants 76:20–24. Have the children read the scripture with their class and identify which prophet is testifying and what he testifies about Jesus Christ. Have one class point to the picture of the prophet they read about and share with the Primary what they learned. Take the picture of the prophet off the board. Repeat with the other three prophets. Point to the picture of Christ and tell the children that all prophets testify of Jesus Christ.

To introduce this topic, I thought that it might be kind of neat to have a man from the ward/branch come in and talk to the children. Have him come dressed as one of the prophets from the Old Testament, New Testament, or Book of Mormon.
This is what I was thinking of, but this is just an example:

Have your prophet come in at the beginning of Sharing Time.

Hi, I am King Benjamin (or any prophet you choose). I am a prophet from the Book of Mormon. Throughout history Heavenly Father has called courageous and honorable men to be His prophets. They are special witnesses of the Savior Jesus Christ. The prophets are called to testify of the Savior, to teach all of us that He died so that we might repent and return to live with our Father in Heaven. Prophets tell us of Christ’s great love for us. Many of the prophet’s testimonies are found in the scriptures. I too have a testimony of Jesus Christ. An angel of the Lord came to me, and told me many important things about our Savior. Have him read from the Book of Mormon, Mosiah 3:5-8.

After he has read from the Book of Mormon, have him testify of Jesus Christ.

After the prophet has talked to the children and testified of Christ you can talk to the children about the prophet and about Testifying of Christ. Explain to the children what ‘Testifying of Christ’ means, and why it is so important. Tell the children that today they are going to be learning about a few more prophets.

At the end of the Sharing Time, show the children a picture of President Monson. Our prophet today, President Thomas S. Monson, also testifies of Jesus Christ. He said, “He is the literal Savior of the World, the Son of God, the Prince of Peace, the Holy One of Israel, even the risen Lord. … As His witness I testify to you that He lives. (Ensign, May 1988, page 56.)

All prophets, whether they lived during Book of Mormon Times or they live today, testify of Jesus Christ. When we listen to the prophets, we can learn about our Savior, Jesus Christ, and gain a testimony for ourselves. Bear Testimony to the children.

YW CAMP: Your Wonderful Journey Home

Our theme for YW Camp (2014) was “Your Wonderful Journey Home”. It was an amazing week! Here are just a few snippets from our week at camp:

STAKE YW PRESENTATION

We were asked, as the YW Stake Presidency, to prepare a presentation for one of the night devotionals. We went with the theme of world travel, visiting all the the locations from around the world which were being represented throughout camp (Ireland, Mexico, Africa, the Islands, China). We turned our outdoor amphitheater into our airplane, the stage was our flight deck.

We dressed as pilots, black pants, white collared/button-up shirts, we used yellow duct tape and permanent black markers to create our “stripes”, blue/red ties (to match the American Airline colors), pilot hats, dark sunglasses and pilot wings.

There was a large screen in the center of the stage which we used for our in-flight entertainment and up-to-date flight status notifications. :) The three of us sat off to the side of the stage at our “control panel” (laptop and scripts).

This is what was on the screen as the YW and leaders boarded the plane (arrived).

We had a couple leaders dressed as flight attendants. They passed out bags of peanuts and drinks to all the YW as they watched this short video:

Then our journey began.

Here are snapshots of the presentation – including videos – which were shown on the large screen. As we traveled, we “visited” someone from each area. They shared a personal experience which exemplified one of the daily camp themes.

One of our young women from our Hmong ward, shared her father’s personal experience of his journey to America and finding the gospel. Such a powerful testimony.

When this music video began, we (the pilots) each put on Hawaiian leis. We sang along and danced in our chairs. It would have been hard not too! :) Love this song!

One of our young women dressed in an African attire, including head wrap. She shared, in first person, the story of the woman pictured below. The missionary shown in the photos is from our area and shared this beautiful experience for us to share with the YW.

We ended the night by singing our theme song all together. And of course everyone stood arm in arm! Love YW camp!!

{Sharing Time} Through The Atonement Of Jesus Christ, All Mankind May Be Saved. (Part 2)

Sharing Time Idea from the 2015 Outline

Encourage application:Invite the children to read Alma 7:11–12 and look for what Jesus has done for us. Ask a few children to share what they found. Tell the children that Jesus understands when we feel hurt, sad, afraid, or sick. He can help us overcome these things. Write the following statements on the board:
I am grateful for the Savior because ___________.

The Savior will help me to ___________.

Invite a few children to share how they would finish these sentences, or have all of the children share their answers with the person sitting next to them.

Encourage understanding:Tell the children that there are many stories in the scriptures of people who were blessed because of the Atonement. Share a few of these stories. Possible stories include Alma the Younger (see Alma 36:5–27), Paul (see Acts 8:1–3; 9:1–20), and Enos (see Enos 1:1–8). After telling a story, review it with the children. Toss a crumpled piece of paper to one child and ask him or her to say one thing about the story. Have the child toss the paper back to you. Continue until the children have mentioned most of the important details from the story. Share your testimony about the Atonement.

Sharing Time Idea from Little LDS Ideas

Weeks 2 & 3 in February share the same Sharing Time topic. I decided to split the idea given in the outline into 2 parts. To view my first Sharing Time idea (part 1) just click HERE. Today I am sharing Part 2.
For this Sharing Time idea I created a popsicle ‘pick’ game that I think the children will enjoy.


Sharing Time Preparation:
Before Primary download and cut out my popsicle stick toppers. There are 6 total (2 pages). On the front of each circle you will see the topic of the week:

“Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, all mankind may be saved.”

On the back of the circles are the two phrases from the outline:

I am grateful for the Savior because ___________.

The Savior will help me to ___________.

and the 3 scriptures from the outline:

Alma the Younger (see Alma 36:5–27)

Paul (see Acts 8:1–3; 9:1–20)

Enos (see Enos 1:1–8)

 After you have cut out each circle you will attach them to a popsicle stick. Glue one popsicle stick to one of the backs of the circles and then place another circle on top.
  

Place each of the 6 popsicles sticks in a jar or container.
You will also need a picture from the Gospel Art Kit of each person that they will be learning about {Alma, Paul, Enos}.

And one more item….you will need to create a large die. A square box would be great. Just cover with paper and label each side with a number or dots (1-6).
You can always use a small die from a game, but the children always enjoy rolling a big one. :)


 Sharing Time:
Begin by asking if anyone remembers what they learned last week. You could recite the 3rdArticle of Faith again or just ask what they remember.
After you have discusses last week’s Sharing Time, read Alma 7:11-12. Invite the children to listen for what Jesus has done for us. Have them raise their hand, stand up, thumbs up, etc. when they hear an answer. Ask a few children to share what they found. You can write the answers on a chalkboard, to help the children remember.

Tell the children that Jesus understands when we feel hurt, sad, afraid, or sick. He can help us overcome these things.

Show the children your container of popsicle sticks. Explain to the children that on the back of each stick is a question or a scripture reference. They will be rolling a die to determine which popsicle stick they will choose.

Invite the first child up to the front and have them roll the die. Then have them pick the appropriate stick that matches the number on the die. The #6 popsicle stick can say ‘Roll Again’ or ‘Your Choice’ or some other fun phrase for the children to do.

If the child lands on one of the ‘finish the phrase’… Invite him/her to share how they would finish the sentence.

If they land on one with a scripture reference have them hold the picture and read the story/scripture about that particular person.

Another idea:You could also give them a few clues to read aloud. Have the other children guess who it is. Once the person has been guessed correctly read the scripture story.

To go along with the outline: After telling the story, review it with the children. Toss a bean bag or a small ball (you could even toss a ‘smartie’ and call them ‘scripture smarties’) to one child and ask him or her to say one thing about the story. Have the child toss the ball/bean bag back to you.

Continue until all the popsicles sticks have been chosen.

Share your testimony about the Atonement.

{Sharing Time} Jesus Christ Is My Savior & Redeemer

Sharing Time Ideas from 2015 Primary Outline

ENCOURAGE UNDERSTANDING: Place pictures of the Last Supper, Christ in Gethsemane, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection around the room. Point to the pictures and tell the children that these are events from the last week of the Savior’s life. Tell the children you are going to read a scripture that goes with one of the pictures. Ask them to silently think about which picture matches the scripture. Read Luke 22:13–14, 19–20. Have everyone stand and face the matching picture. Discuss what is happening in the picture. Repeat with the other pictures (Gethsemane: Luke 22:39–44; Crucifixion: Luke 23:33–34, 46; Resurrection: John 20:11–18). Sing a song such as “He Sent His Son” (CS, 34–35) or “To Think about Jesus” (CS, 71). Testify that Jesus died for us so that we can live with Heavenly Father again.

 Sharing Time Ideas from Little LDS Ideas

I found this from a previous post. I thought it would be a great way to begin your Sharing Time.

Ask the children these questions:

-What did your parents (or other family members) do for you when you were a baby that you could not do for yourself?

– What do your parents (or other family members) do for you now that you cannot do for yourself?

– Why do they do these things for you?

Explain that our parents and other family members are happy to do things for us that we cannot do for ourselves because they love us and want to help us.

Someone else loves us very much and was willing to do something for us that we could not do for ourselves. Before we came to this earth, Jesus Christ offered to be our Savior. That meant he was willing to die and be resurrected so that we could live again and return to our Father in Heaven. Jesus was the only person

with the power to do this for us. We could not do it for ourselves.



I decided to change up this week’s lesson just a little bit. It is very similar to the outline though. I hope you like it.
Activity
At the front of the room have a picture of Christ. Around the picture have my “Jesus Christ is my Savior & Redeemer” circles {pictured above}. On the back of each of the circles write each of the scriptures from the outline: {Luke 22:13-14, 19-20; Luke 22:39-44; Luke 23:33-34, 46; John 20:11-18}.
You will also need to place pictures of the Last Supper, Christ in Gethsemane, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection around the room.

Invite a child up to the front and have them choose one of the circles. Have them read the scripture reference on the back. Read the scripture aloud and then have them walk to the picture that the scripture describes. When the correct picture is chosen have the child bring it to the front. Discuss what is happening in the picture.

Repeat until all pictures have been chosen.

Testifythat Jesus died for us so that we can live with Heavenly Father again.

{Sharing Time} Jesus Christ is the Son of God

Sharing Time Idea from the 2015 Primary Outline
ENCOURAGE UNDERSTANDING: Post three pictures on the board: John Baptizing Jesus, Christ Appears to the Nephites, and The First Vision.
Divide the children into three groups, and give each group one of the following scriptures: Matthew 3:16–17; 3 Nephi 11:6–8; Joseph Smith—History 1:17. Have them discuss the scripture in their groups and then report to the rest of the children (1) the event, (2) what Heavenly Father said, and (3) how they would have felt if they had been there. Invite a child to read John 5:39. Explain that we can gain a testimony that Jesus Christ is the Son of God when we read the scriptures and pray.
Sharing Time Idea from Little LDS Ideas

{From The Friend; April 2003}
Who is Jesus Christ? People of many faiths know that He lived over 2,000 years ago. Many believe only that He was a great teacher who preached about loving and serving one another. But there is more.


Who is Jesus Christ? He asked the Apostles, “Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?

“And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.

“He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

“And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matt. 16:13–16.)

Jr Primary Idea

Before Primary, locate and hide in the Primary room three pictures: John Baptizing Jesus Christ (Matthew 3:16-17), Christ Appears to the Nephites (3 Nephi 11:6-8) , and The First Vision JSH 1:17).

 

Invite a child to find one of the pictures that is hidden in the room.

Read the scripture (listed above) aloud to the children. Once you have read the scripture ask them:

1.     What is happening in the picture?

2.     What did Heavenly Father Say?

3.     How would you feel if you had been there?

After all the picture have been found and each of the scriptures have been found read John 5:39 aloud. Explain to the children that we can gain a testimony of Jesus Christ when we read the scriptures and pray.

Another Way to Play

Follow the idea above, but once a picture is found, have the child post it and read the scripture aloud. Have the child imagine he or she was one of the people in the picture with the Savior or someone who was witnessing the event from “out of camera range.” Using a simple prop as a microphone, interview the child-witness. Ask questions like “Can you describe what you saw?” “What did Heavenly Father say?” “How did you feel if you had been there?” “What difference does this make in your life?”

Once you have finished ‘interviewing’ the child have them sit down and then invite another child to come to the front to find another picture. Continue until all pictures have been found.

Another Way to Play

This would work best for Sr. Primary. Have the 3 pictures posted on a board at the front of the Primary Room.

Divide the children into three groups, and give each group one of the following scriptures: Matthew 3:16–17; 3 Nephi 11:6–8; Joseph Smith—History 1:17.

The groups will read the scripture together and then come up with a few clues and answer the following questions. Clues could include: things that took place during that event, people that were there, etc.

example: This even took place at the River Jordan, John the Baptist was there, etc.

Have one child in the group write down their clues. Then have the children answer these questions:

(1) the event, (2) what Heavenly Father said, and (3) how they would have felt if they had been there.

Invite the first group up. Have one child read each clue aloud. The rest of the Primary children will be listening to the clues to try and guess what picture it belongs to. Once a child knows which picture it belongs to have them raise their hand or stand up.

Invite the child to come up and pick which picture he or she thinks the group is describing. Once the picture is guessed correctly invite the group to share some of their answers to the remaining questions. After the group has shared their answers invite the next group up.


Explain to the children that by reading the scriptures and praying we can gain a testimony of Jesus Christ and know who He is.

Primary 7, Lesson 2

Jesus Christ Volunteered to Be Our Savior
This is one of my favorite stories about Jesus Christ and all He did for us, it’s just a great analogy.
(Story included in download as a handout to glue in notebooks)

As I finished washing the dishes, I glanced out the window and saw my 
eight-year-old brother dangling a long pole in the swimming pool. His 
tangled brown hair hung in his eyes, and his clothes were splashed with 
water. He always managed to avoid helping with the chores, and today was 
no different. I watched as he carefully steadied the pole in the water, lifted it, 
and tapped it on the concrete deck.
“What’s he doing?” I wondered. I decided to go outside and see what
 time-wasting activity had kept him from helping me.
“What are you doing, Ben?” I asked as I walked over to where he stood.
“Saving bees,” he replied. I could now see that each time he steadied the pole, 
it was beneath a bee. He then lifted the bee out of the water and placed it on 
the warm concrete to let the bee dry its wings and fly away.
“But some of them won’t hold on,” he continued. “I try to save them, but they
 just keep trying to swim and won’t grab the pole.”
“Great,” I thought. “One less bee to sting me.” I began walking back toward
 the house, determined to waste no more of my time.
Then Ben spoke again. “It’s like Jesus,” he said.
I stopped and walked back to my little brother. “What do you mean?” I asked, 
confused by that comparison.
“I try to save the bees from drowning, but they have to choose to grab the pole.
 I can’t force them,” he explained. “And that’s like Jesus and us. He wants to 
save us, but we have to choose to follow Him and accept the Atonement. Hed
 can’t force us.” And with that simple analogy, Ben went back to saving the bees.

{Sharing Time} December 2014: The Son of God was Born on Earth

Sharing Time Idea from 2014 Outline

IDENTIFY THE DOCTRINE:Ask the children: “Have you ever waited for something special to happen? Did it seem like a long time to wait? How did you feel when it finally happened?” Give the children an opportunity to share the feelings they had. Explain that since the time of Adam and Eve, our Father in Heaven promised that a very important event would take place. Righteous people looked forward anxiously to this event. Softly whisper to a small group of children, “The Son of God was born on earth.” Have them whisper the sentence to the other children, and then ask all of the children to whisper it together.

ENCOURAGE UNDERSTANDING(sharing a story and singing a song): Ask the children to share what they know about Jesus’s birth (see Luke 2:1–20). Fill in the story with details the children don’t mention. Sing “Stars Were Gleaming” (CS, 37), and invite the children to imagine what the shepherds felt when they heard the angels sing. Encourage application (making a Christmas card): Give each child a piece of paper and a pencil or crayons. Help them fold the paper like a greeting card. Invite them to make a Christmas card for their family by drawing pictures of the birth of Jesus Christ. On the front, have them write “The Son of God Was Born on Earth.”

I have used this idea for Sharing Time, FHE, Christmas Eve lesson…and the children always enjoy it.



{Sharing Time} December 2014: The Son of God was Born on Earth

You will need a nativity set (the Fisher Price ones are great for this) or use a ‘build your own’ picture of a nativity. You can find a great one on Green Jell-o with Carrots, found HERE (they have a few different ones, so look around).

Begin by doing the Identify Doctrine activity.

Ask the children: “Have you ever waited for something special to happen? Did it seem like a long time to wait? How did you feel when it finally happened?” Give the children an opportunity to share the feelings they had. Explain that since the time of Adam and Eve, our Father in Heaven promised that a very important event would take place. Righteous people looked forward anxiously to this event. Softly whisper to a small group of children, “The Son of God was born on earth.” Have them whisper the sentence to the other children, and then ask all of the children to whisper it together.

During this time of year we give and receive gifts, hear wonderful music, see a man in a big red suit with his little reindeer, etc., etc…..but Christmas is actually a very special time. Tell them that we were given a great gift and that is why we celebrate Christmas.

Show the children the stable, and tell them that today they are going to learn about the Birth of Jesus Christ. Have the children repeat:

“The Son of God Was Born on Earth.”

There are different ways you can do this activity.

1.    Have the stable on a table at the front of the room, and the remaining pieces in a bag or another container, to the side. As you read the story from Luke, invite a child up to find the piece that was read in that verse.

At the end you will have every piece of your nativity set up.

2.    Place each piece of the nativity inside of a box and tie a bow around the box. Then add a number to each box. Just make sure you number the boxes correctly. You will want them numbered in the order they appear in the scripture. Begin reading verse by verse. When you are about to read about box #1 invite the child who has #1 to open the box. As you read the scripture (or another child read) invite the child to come to the front and have them add their piece to the nativity.

3.    You could also have the scripture reference along with the piece wrapped inside of a box. Number the boxes. Begin by choosing a child to come to the front and pick box #1. Have them open the box and find the scripture reference. Have them read it aloud, and then show the piece to everyone. Have them add the piece to the nativity.

4.    You could combine Singing Time & Sharing Time by doing the activity this way: Have your nativity set wrapped into individual boxes. Begin with box #1 (have the nativity piece and the scripture inside the box). Tell the children that they will sing the song and pass the gift around. When the music stops they must stop passing the gift. Whoever is holding the gift when the music stops, will get to open the gift.

Invite the child to the front of the room to open the gift. Have them read the scripture and then show the piece to everyone. Then have them add it to the nativity.

5.    Baby Jesus: You could leave Jesus for the very last. Have the last child open the gift with baby Jesus inside. You could then explain WHY Jesus is our greatest gift. Using the pictures from the Gospel Art Kit you could quickly go through some of the major events during Christ’s life. Explain to the children that Jesus was sent to Earth and that He was sent here for us.

ENCOURAGE UNDERSTANDING(matching scriptures with pictures): Write the following scripture references on the board:
Around the room, place pictures depicting the events described in the scriptures (GAB 30, 47, 56, 57, and 59). Tell the children that the sacrament is a time to remember how much Jesus Christ loves us and all that He did for us. Ask a child to read one of the scriptures. Ask another child to choose a related picture and bring it to the front of the room. Repeat with the other scriptures.

ENCOURAGE APPLICATION(playing a memory game): Place on a table items such as a picture of Christ in Gethsemane, a picture of the Last Supper, a piece of bread, a sacrament cup, sacrament trays, scriptures, and a hymnbook. Invite the children to briefly look at the items, and then cover them. Ask the children to work in groups to write down the items they remember seeing. Let the children explain how each item can help them remember Jesus Christ during the sacrament.


Sharing Time Ideas from Little LDS Ideas

I love the idea given in the outline. It’s simple, but something the children will enjoy. I’m not going to share anything too fantastic today…just another option for the ‘Encourage Understanding’ and the ‘Encourage Application’ sections. Enjoy!

Sacrament Punch

In the outline the children will hear different scriptures and then pick which picture belongs to that picture. For this I thought it would be fun to bring in the good ol’ Punch-a-Box!

I have come a long way from the original Punch-A-Box I first created…the Punch-A-Boxes I now use are simple (which is wonderful!).

Using a foam board, hot glue the number of plastic cups needed.
For this idea you will need 5 cups. You could throw in a few extra cups and add some scenarios of different types of behavior during Sacrament. You could have the children do a ‘thumbs up’ for ways we should act during Sacrament or a ‘thumbs down’ for irreverent behavior.

Ex: I was teasing my sister during Sacrament (thumbs down).
I read The Friend during Sacrament (thumbs up).
Now, on pieces of paper type/write the scripture references listed above. If you decide to add some scenarios be sure to type/write those onto pieces of paper as well.

Once your cups are glued to your foam board, place each of your pieces of paper inside of a cup.

Next, get some tissue paper and cut large square pieces (just make sure they’re large enough to fit over the mouth of the cup). Get a rubber-band and place the rubber-band around the tissue paper and the mouth of the cup.

To Play!

Around the room, place pictures depicting the events described in the scriptures (GAB 30, 47, 56, 57, and 59). Tell the children that the sacrament is a time to remember how much Jesus Christ loves us and all that He did for us.

Show the children your Punch-A-Box and explain that today they are going to be playing ‘Sacrament Punch’. Tell the children that inside each of these cups are different scriptures references. Show them the pictures around the room (or you can have them posted on a chalkboard) and explain that each scripture matches one of the pictures.

The children will take turns coming to the front to ‘punch’ & retrieve a scripture. The scripture will be read aloud and then the child will have to decide which picture it belongs to.

I created some little tags that you could have the child place on the picture that they pick after they have read their scripture.

Sacrament I Spy
Here’s another option for the ‘Encourage Application’ idea. It’s very similar but with just a little change. Hope you like it.

Place several different items on a table such as:

a Picture of Christ in Gethsemane

a Picture of the Last Supper

a Piece of Bread

a Sacrament Cup

Sacrament Trays

Scriptures

a Hymnbook
Have the items covered with a towel or small blanket. Explain to the children that underneath the blanket are different items that we might see/use during the Sacrament.

Explain that you are going to invite one child up (you could even invite 2-3) to the front. You will uncover the items on the table for 15-20 seconds and let them look at the items. Then you will cover the items again and remove one item. You will then uncover the items once again for a short amount of time and see if they can guess which item is missing.

Once they have guessed which item is missing show the item to the other Primary children. Then invite the child to explain how that particular item can help them remember Jesus Christ during the Sacrament.


These are simple ideas, but they are fun and will help the children to learn the importance of the Sacrament and hopefully help them to learn that Sacrament is a time to remember Jesus Christ.
