March 4, 2013 at 2:08 pm in reply to: which RS President was converted after attending a RS Bday party? #243455
You're talking about Barbara B Smith.
The story is here: http://www.mormonshare.com/relief-society-birthday-celebration-and-party-ideas
You never know who you're influencing at the Birthday Party…
Barbara B. Smith, tenth General Relief Society President, first attended Relief Society on March 17, 1942, for the 100th anniversary Relief Society Birthday program. She was expecting a baby, and her mother didn't want to leave her alone at home. She observed, "That day at Relief Society the hundred years of Relief Society history were reviewed, a meaningful way for me to see what Relief Society was all about and how I could fit into it. I started to attend our ward Relief Society regularly soon after that." (" 'Joy in Every Minute': An Interview with Sister Barbara B. Smith," Ensign, June 1975, 61)

Can you specify a link that gives you a problem?

Are the students tired? You might need to give them a chance to move around a little. We stand to sing, and then move after the prayer from one area of the room to where I set up the tables. That movement helps get the blood pumping, and I think it has really helped in our class.
I love to study the gospel, and it's very easy for me to get caught up in the awesomeness of the scriptures and get very excited. It takes a lot of effort for me to adjust my study for preparing lessons instead of studying to learn new things myself. I try to focus on coming up with ideas that will help me get the students to discover the most important parts of a lesson themselves, instead of me telling them what is cool. If you're a regular here, you know that I've posted a lot of my ideas and ideas I've collected from other teachers in the Teaching Tips section. I use ideas from the list several times a week to help students interact with the material more.
I will think some more and see if I can come up with some more ideas….

Our big list of RS birthday celebration ideas is here:

You can access it from the Relief Society –> Meetings menu at the top of the page.

I have wondered about this, too. It seems like the lessons in SS ask teachers to help kids to "apply" the messages that haven't been taught yet because YM/W is the third hour. Has anyone else found this a problem?
I have always explained that in SS we learn doctrine and in auxiliaries we learn application. CFM is just the opposite.

Do you mean you couldn't access the links I posted here, or that you are looking for something else?
I don't know of any hand outs except the hanky card. If you make a handout, please consider sharing it so others can use it, too.

I'm not accepting user account registrations except for regular content submitters.
If you're having trouble accessing content, please let me know where you found a bad link and I'll fix it.

Thanks for answering this, Alana — it's so great when users reach out to help each other!
I think that the proclamation should go on the bottom layer in this example, if I'm not mistaken — wouldn't be the first time.
Additionally, if you set the temple layer to "multiply" or "screen" it may give you an interesting effect.

No need to register. Just go to the clip art tab above to find the seal, or you'll also find it here:
