Newly called 2nd counsellor & wondering if anyone has/is implementing the children’s class during home enrichment. Never heard/seen it done. We had lots of children running in and out of our home enrichment class last night so I thinks this is a class that our ward needs. Appreciate any help, thanks!

Gosh — I’ve never been in a unit that didn’t have a children’s class. I’ve seen it done several ways:

    1) Call couples to serve as children’s class teachers for 3 month terms. Since Enrichment night is about to go quarterly, you could ask couples or parents to watch children one Enrichment night. In the ward I was in that did this, we actually got a calling from the Bishop, but the RS could aks specialists to do the job.

    2) Call a sister to serve as children’s class leader. A pair of dads would make a great choice, too, so that all sisters can participate in Enrichment. I wouldn’t call a male alone for liability reasons.

    3) Invite the YW to teach the children’s class as part of their babysitting service for personal progress.

Be sure to include some type of lesson material — a 10-15 minute lesson is plenty. We usually take ours from the Nursery manuals or Friend. You can show a church video, too.

We hold our children’s classes in the Nursery. We also serve them refreshments from the Enrichment meeting since there are always plenty.

Good luck in your new calling!

We are implementing this a little differently in the ward I’m serving in now. For meetings, we provide a snack, short lesson from the Primary 1 manual, and other activities for the children. We ask Elder’s, High Priests, Young Men, and Young Women to each cover one quarterly event with sitters. They provide at least 2 individuals to work in the nursery, and we’ve had as many as 5 at one time.

We like this method because we do all the preparation and the sitters just come in and watch the kids. Our enrichment counsellor is currently handling this because we don’t have a children’s class leader and the Enrichment night leader is too busy on the evening of the events to worry about this, too.

Be sure to make plates for the sitters from the refreshments in the activity. They deserve it!!!

Sisters coordinating our midweek activities (not quarterly events) handle sitting arrangements themselves.
