Young Women Leaders' Materials List

This page is under construction pending the release of new information on November 13 from the CHI update broadcast.
=====

If you've received a new calling in Young Women, you might be wondering what materials you can get from the LDS Distribution Center to support you in your new gig. Some materials may have been lost during transitions between leaders.

This isn't an official list by any means -- I'm basing this on a recent order I placed when our new ward was organized. Hope it helps! ~Jenny

Everyone Should Have...

The following items ought to be owned by each person in any Young Women calling:

  • LDS scriptures (Book of Mormon, Bible, D&C, Pearl of Great Price)
  • List of all young women in their class with contact information (printed from MLS in the clerk's office)
  • A ward/branch directory (printed from MLS in the clerk's office)
  • Contact information of stake/district leaders
  • Calendar of Activities
  • For the Strength of Youth Pamphlet
  • Teaching, No Greater Call

Counselors and President Should Have...

In addition to the "everyone" list above, Beehive, Mia Maid, and Laurel Counselors and the Young Women's president should have:

  • The new Church Handbook of Instructions (published 2010)
  • List with presidency contact information (clerks will use MLS to generate -- this list will include dates of callings and settings apart, when updated properly by clerks)
  • Young Women Camp Manual
  • Young Women Camp: A Guide for Priesthood and Young Women Leaders
  • The Activity Book
  • Activity Plan Forms
  • Parental or Guardian Permission and Medical Release Forms
  • Young Women Personal Progress Tracking Sheet for Leaders

    --Gospel Teaching and Leadership Handbook
--Improving Gospel Teaching: A Leader's Guide

The Secretary Should Have...

In addition to the "everyone" list, secretary should receive/create/maintain:

  • Class attendance rosters (from the clerks)
  • Up-to-date Budget information (from the clerks)
  • Minutes from presidency meetings
  • The new Church Handbook of Instructions (published 2010)
  • Agenda forms (for opening exercises at mutual or Sunday lessons)

Young Women Teachers/Advisers...

You may live in a large unit where you have advisers called to teach Sunday young women lessons, or you may live in a small unit where presidency members teach the lessons. Here's what those teachers need in addition to the "everyone" list:

  • Young Women Lesson Manual (1, 2, or 3; see the annual curriculum guide in the clerk's office if you are unsure)
  • Young Women Resource Guide for the current year
  • Improving Gospel Teaching: A Leader's Guide

** Don't forget Teaching, No Greater Call from the "Everyone" list! **

Camp Leaders Should Have

The following information is helpful for setting up a Young Women's Girls Camp. Camp leaders should receive the items on the "everyone" list plus the following:

  • Young Women Camp Manual
  • Young Women Camp: A Guide for Priesthood and Young Women Leaders
  • Young Women Camp Songs, CD
  • Selected Young Women Music CD
  • The Activity Book
  • Parental or Guardian Permission and Medical Release Forms
  • Activity Plan Forms

For Leaders New to Young Women

If a leader is new to Young Women, has been out of youth programs for many years, or has not completed her personal progress, the following items may be acquired:

  • Personal Progress Book
  • Personal Progress Journal
  • YW Value Ribbon Bookmark
  • Young Women Theme Card

Materials for Youth

These are the items that young women themselves should receive:

New Beehives/All Young Women Should Have....

When girls graduate from Primary and enter Young Women as Beehives, they should receive the following, as well as an explanation of the Personal Progress Program given by the Beehive Counselor:

  • Personal Progress Book
  • Personal Progress Journal
  • YW Value Ribbon Bookmark
  • Young Women Theme Card
  • For the Strength of Youth Card
  • For the Strength of Youth Pamphlet
  • Young Women Logo Pendant
  • Invitation to weekly mutual with information on time and location, where applicable
  • Calendar of activities

Class Presidents Might Have...

I think it's helpful for class presidents to have information to read about their new callings, just like adults. The following may be used:

  • List of all young women in their class with contact information (printed from MLS in the clerk's office)
  • Calendar of Activities
  • For the Strength of Youth Pamphlet
  • The Activity Book
  • Gospel Teaching and Leadership Handbook
  • Dance Manual
  • Communications Manual
  • Theatre Manual

Stock These in the Young Women Storage Closet

  • Personal Progress Books
  • Personal Progress Journals
  • YW Value Ribbon Bookmarks
  • YW Value Ribbons (only available through the clerk's office)
  • Young Women Theme Card
  • Young Women Theme Poster
  • Young Women Logo Poster
  • For the Strength of Youth Cards
  • For the Strength of Youth Pamphlets
  • Young Women Logo Pendants
  • Honor Bee Charms

  • A Song of the Heart Songbook (multiple copies, if you use Selected Young Women Music CD -- useful in small branches)
  • Activity Plan Forms
  • Parental or Guardian Permission and Medical Release Forms
  • Young Women Personal Progress Tracking Sheet for Leaders

*** I don't recommend that you stock the Young Women Recognition Award / Medallion because they come in different styles and finishes. Order those in small quantities or as needed. They are available through the clerk's office only. ***

Hi Jenny,
I am looking for a powerful joint YW activity that will join a New YW Presidency with the girls. I was just called as a the NEW YW President and have 3 new counselors. The girls have had the same leaders for 7 years. So you can see that the bond runs deep and we now have to find a way to touch these girls and allow them to bond with us. Have any ideas?
