I made this handout to help out in my teaching of Revelation chapters 1-7.  I'm hoping it will help answer student questions that may come up.  This handout is geared for teenagers, and all the sources are LDS.

Revelation 1:13 – One like unto the Son of Man

This is Christ. The Book of Revelation Made Easier by David J. Ridges says this phrase was used to keep from saying the name of God or Christ too frequently. The Savior identifies himself in verses 16-17.

This LDS dispensations handout is based on the super cool walkthrough at http://gospeldoctrineplus.blogspot.com/2010/01/as-memory-aid-for-chronol... .  Sister Jensen's image and idea make it easy to visualize the major gospel dispensations.  

I changed some of the dates and a few other typographical errors.  I also added the definition of a dispensation from the Encyclopedia of Mormonism.

Time during the New Testament

This handout shows what is meant by the sixth hour of the day or the watches of the night as mentioned in the New Testament.

The Roman clock, or time of day, was divided into 12 hours (Latin horae) of light and 12 hours of darkness.

Since the length of the sunlight varied with the seasons this also meant that the length of the hour changed - with shorter hours in winter and longer hours in summer. Hours could vary in length from 45 minutes to 75 minutes.

Having Trouble Showing Videos in SS class at Church

Okay, the above isn't really a question, but I know teachers with problems showing videos all over.  The church typically relies on the very lowest bandwidth residential connections it can get, which causes problems for a media-hungry curriculum like Come Follow Me.  The Come Follow Me site has a page that teaches you how to avoid the bandwidth crush as several teachers try to display the same videos during class at the same time.

There is a lesson on conversion in the New Testament manual for Seminary. When one of my students brought up this issue at the end of class yesterday, I decided to create this handout for use during class to help us get through the topic a little faster.

What is a testimony?

A testimony is the statement or declaration of a witness under oath or affirmation, usually in court. It is evidence given in support of a fact or statement. Testimony is an open declaration or profession, as of faith.

Comprehensive List of Changes to LDS Programs as per CHI Book 2

I've said it before, the new Church Handbook of Instructions is GENIUS! Now it's time to make a simple list of essential changes to programs to aid you in your leadership training events.

Activities

Standing activities committees have been eliminated. Activities are instead planned by the ward council and then assignments are delegated to members/quorums/auxiliaries. If a meeting is for just one group (like Young Women or Primary) the leaders of that group carry out the activity after discussion with the ward council and description of a need.

Seminary Mom: Gospel Quilt Teaching Activity

ACTIVITY:

Interestingly enough, the scripture we are working on for scripture mastery this week is Alma 37:6-7:

"Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise.

"And the Lord God doth work by means to bring about his great and eternal purposes; and by very small means the Lord doth confound the wise and bringeth about the salvation of many souls."

This scripture mastery wove perfectly into what we discussed by the end of class today. But first for the activity!

Scripture Mastery Muffin Cup Game

Following is Seminary Mom's scripture mastery game idea:

Preparation

1. I cut out circles of paper using the base of a small glass for tracing a well-rounded circle (not that a perfect circle really matters).

2. I wrote the historical setting on each individual circle for twelve of the scripture masteries I wanted to focus on for the day. (I found the historical setting on the front of the scripture mastery cards given the students. On another day, I might write the doctrinal teaching or missionary application, etc.)

3. I placed the circles in the muffin tin with the writing all "face up". (As we played the game, we turned over the papers "face down" once that scripture had been done.)

(Probably obvious, but I prepared all this before class :0)
