The Ashburn Virginia Stake made a great video with ideas on how to make or alter clothing when preparing for Trek. The video includes instructions on fabric types that are safe around fire, skirt lengths, and how to make a man's shirt for trek. It also has information on what to read to prepare for trek.

Girls Camp Certification Record

YW Girls Camp Certification Record on 1 sheet: Copy these pages front and back onto card stock for each girl. These are kept in the Camp Director's folder and follow the girls until they graduate. I made this to keep a record of each girls progress / completion ... so if their camp book ever gets lost we have proof of which levels she had completed. Also, it is easier to see which items are still needing to passed off for each girl. Each requirement fulfilled is initialed or highlighted as complete. Hope this helps! Make Your Own "Brass" Plates

Make your own brass plates

I did this activity with my CTR 8 class years ago. It's a fun craft that helps students really think about why certain things are included in the scriptures and to practice writing their testimony.

Gather Your Materials


For this craft, you'll need

  • Scissors that you don't mind cutting metal with
  • copper flashing
  • sharp edge (counter top or piece of wood with right edges)
  • a pair of pliers
  • a piece of scrap 2x4
  • a large nail, craft stick, or pencil with the sharpened tip broken off

4th year overnighter Adventure

Our Ward/Stake has never done a 4th year overnighter or other activity, and doesn't plan to. So as camp leaders we want to start doing something for them, and decided the sky's the limit. We want to make it an experience to remember so they feel they have gotten to do something really special to commemorate the end of their certification before becoming a youth leader. I want the girls coming up next year to also be excited for when they get their opportunity. We have a camp site reserved close by, but I want to do more, or something different then camping. Any ideas?

Ideas needed for earning money for girls camp.

I am looking for some ideas that correspond with the guidelines in Handbook II to enable our YW to earn money for girls camp this year. In the past we did a dinner and dessert auction but most of us ended up spending more money than if we had just payed for our own daughters individually. We also have those YW who do not have the money yet we want all to attend and would like them to earn it rather than the money come from the budget. We used the budge last year in additon to the fund raiser to provide everyone the opportunity to attend.

So... you've decided to save money on buying camp shirts by purchasing just one size. However, it becomes pretty obvious that no no matter how awesome the shirt, no one will wear them if they look silly. Here's a great idea some girls in our ward shared with me on how to make your gigantic t-shirt into a super cute, fat roll-hiding (yes, really) custom tee.

How to make a Big T-shirt Smaller
