Nt Acts 27-28 "be Of Good Cheer"

The kids loved Acts 28, learning about Paul being bitten by a viper. The viper just dangled from his hand and he shook it off like no big deal. Meanwhile everyone around him thought he was dead for sure!

During his long ordeal of being caught at sea for 14 days in a violent storm, Paul receives comfort and gives comfort to those on board ship with him.

Acts 27:25 He says "be of good cheer, for I believe God".

Nt Acts 10 Fair?

As they came into class, I had them line up and gave them each a letter grade, telling them that Bro. Baker (our CES director) needed them.

Some were not pleased with how I decided their grades! Imaging that!

Nt Acts 3 Lifting Burdens

Started off class by having them silently read Acts 3:1-9
Then showed this video:
We discussed what else or who else can the lame man, Peter & John and the healing represent. They came up with some great answers!
Lame man could be, those without the gospel, us, sin
Peter & John could be missionaries, Savior, us doing baptisms for the dead
Healing could be the words of Christ, Atonement, temple work

After Peter healed the man what did Peter do?

Nt John 21 Great Commandment

After the Savior died, the remaining disciples, were lost. They had only been learning and following the Savior for 3 years. Not knowing how to carry on, they reverted back to to what they knew, FISHING.

Old habits and the familiar comforts they give us, often can drive us away from the Savior.

Elder Jeffery R Holland gave a wonderful talk at the Oct. 2012 General Conference called "The First Great Commandment"

NT Matthew 26-28 Love

John 14: 31 Jesus loved Heavenly Father so much He was willing to do all that Heavenly Father asked of Him.
John 10:18 Christ willingly gave His life. NO ONE could take it from Him.
John 10: 17 Heavenly Father loved Christ for His willingness
John 15: 12-13 Jesus loved us so much He died for us
John 3: 16 Heavenly Father loved us so much He gave His only begotten son to die for us
John 13:34-35/ John 14: 21 we show our love for them by keeping their commandments and loving each other

Video: I Am A Child Of God / I Have A Savior

I just finished this video last night and I'm so excited to share it with you! I first sent it to Ryan Maag and asked his permission to use his song. He is happy to share it on the video and loved hearing the song again, he said it brought back special memories. The photos I used are mostly from lds.org. I Am A Child Of God

I just LOVE this video done by the church! You can find it on the Mormon Channel or on YouTube. I'm so excited to share it with my Primary kids to introduce "I am a Child of God" next week. On the video they sing the first verse twice and then the second verse once. We'll watch and sing along with the first verses and then stop and review/teach the 2nd verse(even my new Sunbeams know the first verse.) Then we'll finish the video while singing along.

Supplemental Ideas for New Testament

Here's a list of things I've found to be helpful in teaching the New Testament this year.

Herod's Temple

Here is a website I used to teach about Herod's temple (the temple that was built in Jesus' day). It's helpful for the kids to understand why the Jews were both angry and astonished when Christ said the temple would be destroyed. A man in England has spent over 30,000 hours building a model of Herod's temple.

New Testament Videos from LDS.org

Please consider using the new videos from the LDS Church during your New Testament Seminary course this year. Each video is short enough to be used during a daily seminary lesson.

You can download these videos to an iPad or other smart device so that you can use them without internet access. I know that the iPad can be attached to the television for play back to a group, as probably other devices can. The entire library and the smart device apps are available for free at http://biblevideos.lds.org/.
