Are you Paying Attention?

Display a picture of a bird and a quarter. Then tell the following story:

Two men were walking down a busy city street. The one asked the other, "Listen to that bird." "I don't hear a bird," the other replied. "No, you must listen harder." The second individual listened very carefully and after a few seconds, he finally heard the bird amongst the hustle of the street.

The first individual asked, "Do you think THEY hear the bird?" The second man looked around at the rushing pedestrians racing past them. "No, probably not." "Now watch this." The first gentleman flipped a quarter, allowing it to fall to the ground. Scads of people stopped and looked for the fallen coin. "Amazing," came the reply of the second man.

The First Principles and Ordinances of the Gospel

Build a small table out of a piece of wood approximately 8 inches by 4 inches. Drill four holes in each corner, and insert wooden dowels cut about 3 inches long as legs for the table. Be sure that the holes are drilled straight so that the legs are straight and the object lesson will work properly. Glue three of the legs into the table. Leave the fourth leg unglued, and use a magic marker to put a small mark on this leg so that you will know which leg has not been glued. You may want to loosen this leg slightly by inserting it and removing it from the hole a few times or by lightly sanding the dowel.

Explain that each of the legs of the table represent the principles and ordinances of the gospel - faith, repentance, baptism, and the gift of the Holy Ghost.

I was asked to speak at a Baptism on the Holy Ghost. The twin girls were 14 and new to the church.
I purchased 2 small $1 flashlights and put them in simple gift bags.

We must examine closely what our decisions are based on to be sure that Satan isn't deceiving us by disguising something evil.

Having the Holy Ghost with us as all times will help us not to be fooled by his traps.

Prepare the apple and the onion like a caramel apple on the sticks.

Ask the students to pick which caramel apple they would like to eat. Based on appearances, both look appealing, however, what is disguised as good will actually be disgusting if they choose the onion.
