Pay Day

I used a PayDay candy bar and attached the saying, "If your PayDays seem to be few and far between, practicing financial responsibility will help you save more green $$.

Scripture Scholar Files

Seminary Mom uses Scripture Scholar questionnaires to reinforce her teaching.

I've attached several of her old Scripture Scholar forms to this node so you can take a look at them for inspiration.

The Simon/Satan Says Game

How many of us like being told what to do? Yet every time we listen to the adversary, in essence we're following his commands.

ACTIVITY

Here the rules to the game "Simon Says/Satan Says" to get started. This is just like the normal "Simon Says" game, with a twist for the second round.

1. Prior to class, prepare at least 9 cards to flash commands at the kids as you call out "Simon says..." (the cards contain phrases like 'Clap your hands', etc.)

2. Continue to call out "Simon says..." as you show the cards, ending with the final one, which you suddenly drop off "Simon Says." In typical "Simon Says" fashion, some of the kids will have been snagged and will still unthinkingly follow the command. Read more »

Becoming One Girls Camp Theme with Faith Walk

Girls Camp was amazing this year!!! Our stake theme was "Becoming One" and each ward was to choose a 'becoming' theme. We chose "Becoming His" and our symbol was a garden. One leader made darling journals for each girl with quotes, pictures, scriptures, and thoughts for each day of camp as each day had it's own flower, garden, and purpose. The daily tivodevo (devotional- stop what you are doing- like tivo) followed the daily theme. For example, Tuesday's flower was a daisy and the theme was purity. There was a matching flower arrangement for each day and flower everything for the week- aprons, tablecloths, hairpins, pens, bags, treats, cooking/ cleaning teams names, cabin names, decorations, and pockets for tree mail. Scripture Mastery Muffin Cup Game

Following is Seminary Mom's scripture mastery game idea:

Preparation

1. I cut out circles of paper using the base of a small glass for tracing a well-rounded circle (not that a perfect circle really matters).

2. I wrote the historical setting on each individual circle for twelve of the scripture masteries I wanted to focus on for the day. (I found the historical setting on the front of the scripture mastery cards given the students. On another day, I might write the doctrinal teaching or missionary application, etc.)

3. I placed the circles in the muffin tin with the writing all "face up". (As we played the game, we turned over the papers "face down" once that scripture had been done.)

(Probably obvious, but I prepared all this before class :0) Read more »

Tree of Life - Spiritual Fruits Activity

Today we reviewed four chapters in Alma - chapters 27 through 30. To start off, we read the chapter heading for Alma 27. Then the students divided into teams of two. They shared with one another something meaningful they had found in that chapter or a reason why they thought Mormon went to the bother of including these verses. Read more »

Spiritual Brochures Activity

As an LDS seminary teacher, I am always looking for fresh ways to share the gospel with my class. In an effort to record what I have done (for future years), and to share with others, I've begun this blog. Hopefully it may be of help to more than just myself! Feel free to email this blog to others.

Today and yesterday we studied the impact of the gospel in our lives, especially as seen through the eyes of Ammon. He and his brethren had finished some rigorous years of preaching to their enemies, the Lamanites. Having been imprisoned and also having experienced many other forms of abuse, one might think that they would have desisted in their efforts. Not so. And why not? Read more »

LDs Young Women Agenda for Sunday Opening Exercises

I have just been called as Young Women secretary, and this is the agenda form that we use.

Each week the girls get a different spiritual thought-type message, depending on the week of the month it is. This is noted at the bottom of the page.

Princess for a day: each of the girls have filled out a form with information about themselves. The girl conducting reads off some of the information without saying the name of the princess. After a moment or two, the princess' identity is revealed. The "Princess" wears a little plastic tiara and feather boa throughout YW. It's a good get-to-know you type activity, and the girls seem to really like it.

All of the noisy type stuff is before the prayer to try to let the prayer and song help us change gears to more spiritual topics.

New Beginnings Super Bowl Theme Ideas

Here are some ideas for a football themed New Beginnings:

------------

We invited all the Young Women's families. We used the Salem Utah Stake's idea of Kick-off and tailgate party. We had our Opening and then did a skit with the Young Women on teamwork. Using their playbook (personal progress manual) and values for the presentation on teamwork.

The rookies (new Beehives) and Team Captains (class presidencies) were then introduced.

We had a talk on the year's theme and teamwork as families. The speaker built a banana split as she talked about teamwork. Read more »

Patty and the Personal Progress Operator

We had a fun New Beginnings evening with a 50's theme. Decorations included old LP's with labels on them going with the different values.

We had helium balloons of the different value colors also attached to glass ice cream sundae dishes as centerpieces at the tables. We also had Skittles in the centerpieces. We called it the "Heavenly Sweets Ice Cream Parlor" and for refreshments we had drinks of the different value colors. The white ice cream was for Faith and the girls and parents got a float with ice cream and the drink color they chose. The drink bottles had cute bright labels with the different value colors and the value on them. Read more »
