6 Fundamentals of Gospel Teaching

This handout has the 6 fundamentals of Gospel Teaching as described by Elder Dallin H. Oaks in his talk “Gospel Teaching,” Ensign, Nov. 1999, page 78. The 6 fundamentals are: 1. Love your students. 2. Concentrate on students’ needs. 3. Use prescribed (church published) materials. 4. Prepare diligently; seek effective teaching methods. 5. Seek and use the Spirit. 6. Analyze your efforts and seek to improve.

Substitute Instructions

We give this one-page instruction sheet to our substitute teachers to help them prepare Relief Society lessons in accordance with instructions given by church leaders. Since substitutes may not be up-to-date on current teaching methods and materials, we find this paper to be useful in helping them understand how to prepare meaningful lessons.
