There is a poem titled "The Man in the Glass," author unknown. There are five stanzas. Here are the first and the last:
When you get what you want in your struggle for self
And the world makes you king for a day,
Just go to a mirror and look at yourself
And see what THAT man has to say.........
You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years
And get pats on the back as you pass
But your final reward will be heartache and tears
If you've cheated the man in the glass.
If you want the rest of it, let me know and I'll type the rest.

I could not find where to
Submitted by Sue Heath on
I could not find where to post this question but decided that I would start here. I have been asked to fill a handcart with the supplies that a family would have had to take with them. I know that they took some food, but there was a wagon that was ox pulled that carried the supplies for each 100 people and that they had tents that had 20 people assigned to sleep in them. Did they replenish their supplies from the wagon, did they pool their cooking supplies? Aside from bedding, clothing and the utilities they would need to setup housekeeping where they were going, what did they carry on the handcarts? Oh and I do know that each person (5 to a handcart) could have 17# of clothing and bedding. Thanks for help in advance.

I am the new RS secretary in our ward and I am also new to the ward. I would like to put together a packet for Laurels who graduate and are new to RS so they feel welcome. My daughter suggested having a secret buddy to send notes and little treats for the first 6 months and then have a little party at the end...any other ideas?

I was just called as the new President in my singles ward and I am really starting to panic. I didn't really get a whole lot of information from the previous president. All of the information seems to be dated from 2-3 years ago. Does anyone have any suggestions for assignemnts for counsellors? A list of responsibilities maybe? Thanks for any help you have!

Okay, my Mother was recently
Submitted by lou lou (not verified) on
Okay, my Mother was recently called as Relief Society President and has called her counselors. So far her counselors have been on holidays over the summer and she has been really working alone except for 1 presidency meeting. Now, her counselors tell her that they are too busy for a Presidency meeting this week because of this or that excuse they have. So, my question is: How do you have a successful presidency[the kind where counselors etc want to participate]? I have tried to google "Tips to sucessful Relief Society Presidencies" but nothing comes up. I am curious about my Mother's problem since I have had similar problems when I was a Young Women's President. My Mother and I are both converts, but my Mother once was a college professor and has experience in administrative positions so we are confused by how difficult it is to run a Relief Society Presidency. Please help!!!
There are a couple of things
Submitted by Jenny Smith on
There are a couple of things to consider here. Are the counselors actually too busy to help? (Not by your standards, but theirs.) Do the women in these positions understand they were called by inspiration? Do they understand their role and it's essential nature? Do they understand they can expect the help of the Lord and others in their calling? Are you unintentionally causing them to believe their role is unimportant by making up for them, or handling their job when they can not? Do they feel adequately trained to act in their office? Have you worked with your stake Relief Society presidency for help/training? Have you approached these women directly to determine what might be the problem?
I have worked with exceptionally talented sisters that could not overcome self-esteem issues that hindered their ability to serve. I had one counselor that was just plain forgetful. It can be unbelievably frustrating. One of the things I learned as Relief Society president was that I have to be prepared to let people fail. I have to accept that every one has different talents and abilities and levels of commitment to the gospel. I must try (as the Lord does) to work within those parameters to get the very best out of those I serve with.
I have found that a direct, loving approach ("What do you feel are your responsibilities as a counselor in the Relief Society? ... I have noticed that you are very busy with your family/work/other commitments. What can I do to help you juggle your commitments to family and church? ... When can we set up a presidency meeting?") sometimes helps.
I hope others will share their ideas here, as well.

I am a stake relief society

I am a stake relief society president and would love any ideas that would help the sisters in the stake to get to know each other. Our stake spans approx. 60 miles and many of the sisters don't know each other. We are having a women's conference in march 2013 and would love any input.

I am looking for Relief Society meeting activities based on the theme "Line Upon Line"
Any ideas? Doesn't need to be spiritual, just fun. We thought of line dancing but can't find anyone willing to teach us.
