July - I Choose the Right by Living Gospel Principles - 2

July and June are the same overall topic, but this month covers a few difference principles. These are easy-to-teach and a great review of basic principles we should all do in our lives.

Note from the Primary presentation manual: "Having children read from their own scriptures reinforces the importance of the scriptures and invites the Spirit. If possible, invite the children to mark verses in their own scriptures and then read them together."

Reading from the scriptures is a superior teaching method to passing out the entire scripture printed out on a piece of paper, in my opinion. For my Seminary classes I write scripture references on the board so that everyone can turn to the reference, even though only a few students might read from that passage. It can be difficult for younger children to find a passage by themselves, but older Primary children should be looking up passages whenever possible. (You can always give the page number to help strugglers, but don't give it out at first. Let them hunt for a few seconds.)

I probably wouldn't have a sharing time class look up more than 1-2 scriptures per lesson, but it's great whenever we can get kids into their scriptures.
