Modest Princesses Mother/Daughter Morning

Setup is simple, just decorate the tables with anything Disney Princess. princess Barbies, tiaras, princess books, princess tablecloths, etc.
Preparation includes practicing singing the lyrics to the songs, and having readers. We also had a small

fashion show-highlighting a modest prom dress, wedding dress, summer casual wear and a jean and shirt outfit. So we did have to instruct those young women of where to be and what to do. We chose to only include leaders in the reading and singing and the fashion show was presented by four young women that were graduating that year so that the Young Women and their mothers could enjoy it together.
For the Invitations we just created a plain invitation and cut and pasted black and white pics of Disney princesses on the page.
We created a program so that the mothers and daughters could follow along with the lyrics so that they knew exactly what was being said. We found that afterward, they would look at the words and sing along.
We also gave them each a small hand mirror with a small ribbon and paper attached to it with the words “You must remember who you are
A princess bright, a royal star.”

It was far too much work and could not possibly be pulled off in the amount of time that we had so I decided to change it up a bit. It is not a skit, it is more of a presentation with music and little stories that are read throughout the program. The girls and their mothers enjoyed it, it was a very fun activity and we felt like the message was sent across in fun manner. The songs suggest things such as dressing more modestly and how young men should treat each young woman. It also discusses the For the Strength of Youth Pamphlet and encourages the young women to go to the pamphlet for guidance.

We finished the activity with a delicious breakfast which the bishopric had prepared.

Overall this activity was very effective, it was fun for both the leaders presenting it and the young women and their mothers who watched it.

Modesty Princesses Program
Lyrics for songs

Jasmine
To the tune of “A Whole New World”

I can tell you a tale
About a girl who changed
What she wore just to make
Her Savior proud of her
I can show you a style
Modest, Cute, and in Fashion
Where my stomach is covered
And the boys still think I’m cute.
A Modest style
Inside and out, you’re on your way
No one can tell you no, you cannot go,
Because you chose to dress more modestly
Heavenly Father knows me
He is proud of my standards
I can show that I respect him
When I dress modestly
I can show you a dress
Shining, Shimmering, Splendid
Floor-length, long-sleeves and high-necked
And it’s temple ready too.
A Temple Dress!
Inside and out, you’re on your way
No one can tell you no, you cannot go,
Because you are prepared to go….
A modest style, makes it worthwhile,
A temple dress, I’m at my best,
A thrilling day, a wonderful place,
It’s the place for me.

Ariel
To the tune of “Part of your world”

Look at these clothes, aren’t they neat?
Wouldn’t you think that my wardrobe’s complete?
Wouldn’t you say I’m the girl, the girl who has everything?
Look at these jewels colors so bold,
How many earrings can one earlobe hold,
Look in my drawers you will think,
Sure she’s got everything,
I’ve got short skirts and short shirts a plenty,
I’ve got sleeveless prom dresses galore,
You want tank tops? I’ve got twenty,
But who cares, no big deal, I want more!

(Spoken Confidently) I want to be a little more modest!

I want to be where the standards are higher,
I want to go to the temple someday
Walkin’ around in nice dresses with, what’s the word? Sleeves!
Showin’ my skin I won’t get very far,
Length is required for sitting, bending,
Miniskirts won’t seem to cover what’s the word? ME!
I’m at my best, modestly dressed,
And if you’re listening, you will have guessed,
And you will see
I want to be
A more modest girl!

Belle
To the tune of “Beauty and the Beast”

Tale as old as time,
True as it can be,
Heard this all before,
But I just can’t ignore,
How he treats me.
I look how he’s dressed,
And put him to the test,
If our standards match,
He’s the perfect catch,
I think it’s meant to be.
I’ve been told before,
If I want to be sure,
He’s the one for me,
For eternity,
Get on my knees and pray.
Tale as old as time,
True as it can be,
Heard this all before,
But I just can’t ignore,
How he treats me.
Heard this all before,
But I just can’t ignore,
I want eternity.

Feona
To the tune of “Hallelujah”

Modesty all over the world, it plays its part and it pleases the Lord
And you remember who you are, or do you?
The length of your skirt, the sleeves of your shirt,
The way you talk, the way you walk
And everything you are says “Hallelujah.”
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelu-jah
You must remember who you are
A princess bright, a royal star,
Your glory burned so bright back when I knew you
We’ll walk the walk; we’ll talk the talk
We’ll be our best in modest dress
And every word we’ll speak is “Hallelujah.”
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelu-jah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelu-jah
