YW Handkerchief poem #1
This is only a little hanky here.

May it's emblems of purity follow you dear,
And guide you wherever you go.
It's dainty and so very much like

May stains never mar your beauty,
Things that water will not wash away;
May you keep as pure and sweet and dear,
As this little hanky today.

Glow in your eyes and face.
Someday when you are married
To a choice and worthy "heâ€

An old Irish tradition is for the handkerchief a woman uses on her wedding day to be kept and then used as a baby bonnet to have her first child wear. Then the handkerchief is passed to the future daughter-in-law (if the child was a boy) or daughter to use on her wedding day, and so on.
