Whitmer Mock Trial

I taught D&C 30 today, about the Whitmer boys. We had mock trials where the students played the roles of prosecutor, defender, judge and defendant. I separated the kids into groups and each group was assigned one brother to study. For resource material, they studied Section 30 as well as a biography of their assigned brother. I also printed out a few pictures of the brothers for use as props. Then we did a mock trial for each brother, with the prosecutors discussing their actions and defenders discussing their character and good acts. It was a fun way to discuss the lives of the three Whitmer boys. (At the end, we discussed what happened in the lives of these three men later in church history… the kids had fun guessing who remained true and faithful).

Did you use biographies from lds.org?

:

I used bios from Who’s Who in the Doctrine and Covenants by Susan Easton Black. But any bio would do.
